Grogu's inner monologue for me sounds like Buddy the Elf.

I just Imagine Din making him write an apology letter to Mr. And Mrs. Frog after they babysit. With a giant crayon it would be something like--

"I'm sorry I ruined your lives and jammed eleven cookies into the VCR....and ate six of your unborn children."

Okay, but since Emeraldas fucked off after Tochiro's death that means Harlock had to take care of Mayu for at least a little while. I'm sure he adored Mayu but was totally incapable of caring for her on his ship and do his job at the same time. So of course he has to find her a safe place on Earth to grow up.

And I am just dying at that thought. Like, did Harlock have to interview at a lot of places before he found a good one? Did he stalk into the room all dramatic intimidation and wooshy cloak carrying this tiny baby, surrounded by his crew and ask if they took infants and what were their education programs like? He'd also have to register Mayu as a citizen of Earth and such. That means probably waiting in lines, which I highly doubt he was a fan of.

And the entire process would be long and difficult because Mayu gets only the best. But just... temporarily-domestic Harlock. Still in full pirate gear, still being his scary pirate self and threatening people for Mayu's sake. A wonderfully adorable and hilarious image if ever there was one.

Harlock Headcanon

Harlock has let Mayu braid his hair and paint his nails in the interest of "improving fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination." The rest of the Arcadia goodnaturedly tease Harlock, but think it's cute.
