Favorite Part Of My Day
Steve Harrington x sunshine!reader 600 words
Hurt/comfort + Secret Crush + Grumpy x Sunshine
You’re usually the brightest part of Steve’s day, filling every quiet moment with your presence. So when you suddenly stop talking, he’s determined to find out why and make sure you never have to shrink yourself again
Steve liked to pretend he didn’t pay much attention to people, didn’t care when they ignored him, or when they talked to him either. But by the fifth time you’d frown that day, thinking no one was looking, he couldn’t take it anymore.
He lasted approximately twenty seconds before slamming a vhs case onto the counter. “Okay, what happened?” Steve crossed his arms, waiting.
Your head snapped up, blinking innocently. “Nothing happened.”
“Bull.” He didn’t buy it for a moment, you couldn’t help the tiny smile that tugged at your lips. “See,” Steve muttered. “Now c’mon, tell me.”
You busied yourself by playing around with the charm bracelets stacked on your wrist. “It’s stupid.” You shrugged.
“So? I’ve had people say a lot of stupid shit, it doesn’t phase me.” Steve didn’t miss a beat.
“Someone just…” you sighed. “They told me I talk too much.” You avoided his gaze.
Steve stared for a moment. “Thats all?” He asked.
“I mean—” You laughed awkwardly. “Maybe they’re right. I can get kind of excited and I ramble and I don’t always know when to stop talking and—”
“Who said that?” His voice cut through yours so sharply you instantly froze.
“What?” You asked, confused.
“Give me their name.” He remained steadfast.
You looked at him with wide eyes, sputtering out your words. “It doesn’t matter.” You shook your head.
“It matters to me, they hurt your feelings.” Steve’s jaw tensed for the briefest moment, so fleeting you’d have missed it if you blinked. “Whoever said that can keep their mouth shut.”
A surprised laugh escaped you, though there was no humor behind his expression. “I’m serious.” His brows pulled together into that familiar permanent scowl he always wore. “What kind of asshole tells someone to stop talking?”
Your heart skipped, Steve rubbed the back of his neck like he was annoyed he even had to explain it. “You know what’s annoying?” His voice softened only slightly.
You sniffled, giving him a small smile, the first you’ve worn all day. “What?”
“You being quiet.” He explained, your breath catching as his gaze flickered around the room before returning back to you. “I mean…” he frowned, like the words physically hurt to say. “You fill the room.”
Heat rushed to your cheeks, but Steve, being completely oblivious to the secret crush you harbored on him, kept going. “You tell me random facts I didn’t ask for, you constantly interrupt yourself because you remembered something even more important.”
You let out a mortified groan, not knowing that’s how he saw you. “And somehow,” he rolled his eyes. “It became my favorite part of the day.”
Everything inside you stopped, he sighed heavily, trying to act like it didn’t bother him as much as it did. “So if some idiot thinks you talk too much,” he scoffed. “They can take it up with me instead.”
You couldn’t look at him anymore, only nodding slowly. Steve frowned, “why are you so red?” He tilted his head at you.
“I-I’m not,” you denied shakily.
Steve leaned a little closer, only making your case even worse. “Are you sick?” He questioned.
You covered your face with both hands, mumbling out weakly. “No.”
He sighed dramatically, “great, now I have two problems.”
You peaked between your fingers, blinking at him. “Two problems?” You repeated.
Steve pointed outwards. “One idiot who made you sad,” then he pointed at you. “And you refusing to smile at me.”
Your heart melted so quickly you were surprised it was still beating at all.
Steve crossed his arms again, narrowing his eyes at you. “So,” he nudged your shoulder. “Can I have my sunshine back now?”
And who were you not to give him what he desperately asked for?
A while ago, my cousin started giving me random words and numbers every day to get me writing again. Today, I decided to share the first one that I wrote. I don’t think I’m going to share all of them, but I’m happy with the way this one came out.
Steve was exhausted and most certainly not in the mood for anything. Apparently, the universe didn’t care about what he wanted and was conspiring against him. The feeling was perfectly valid and reasonable, he thought, as Eddie showed up at his door.
“I’m not home,” he tried to convince the universe quietly. Maybe if he believed it hard enough, it would come true.
“C’mon, man. I see your Beemer in the driveway. Open the door.”
He just knew that the older man had his face pressed up against the door and that kind of made him want to cry. Just another thing he’d have to make sure to clean before his parents got home.
“I’m not home,” Steve whined.
Even so, he got up from the couch and walked to the front door. He unlocked and opened the thin veil between him and what was left of his sanity. He was sure he didn’t look happy, but hopefully he wasn’t glaring at the person who showed up on his front step.
“Harrington,” Eddie beamed with his hands behind his back. “Just the man I wanted to annoy today.”
“Munson, please.” Steve complained gently. “Don’t look so happy right now. It’s improving my mood.”
Eddie pulled a hand out from behind his back, showing off the fact that he was holding a ziplock with a couple joints in it. “Will this improve your mood further, my liege?” He teased.
“You’re such a fucking brat.”
Steve grabbed Eddie’s wrist and led him into the house and up to his room. He didn’t even care about making sure the front door was closed, but the back of his mind registered that it clicked shut anyway. Once they got to his room, he closed the door and walked over to open his windows. By the time he turned around, Eddie had already crammed a blanket up against the bottom of his door to try and help keep the scent of weed from getting to the rest of the house.
Tension seemed to melt right off of him, already his shoulders were feeling more relaxed. He held a hand out and Eddie placed the bigger joint between his fingers.
“I’m so in love with you, you have no idea,” Steve assured his best friend.
warnings: fluffff, Steve being sassy, playful banter,
Where Steve only smiles for you, and the rest get his grouchy attitude
No one knew your boyfriend like you did, all they saw from the exterior was a closed-off, sharp tongued, version of Steve Harrington who was all rough edged. But they all saw how he visibly softened the moment you would walk into the room. The tiniest hitch of his shoulders coming back down, his jaw unclenching, fingers twitching at his sides like he was already about to reach out for you before you even noticed.
That’s what you loved about him most, how Steve didn’t need to show the whole world the side of him that was reserved for you, the side that whispered sweet nothings into your hair on an early morning, and how he gave you the smallest of smiles like it was a secret between you.
Steve knew everything about you, and not just the surface knowledge most guys prided themselves in knowing like favorite colors or food. No, he knew what overwhelms you, how you preferrer to be comforted, how to communicate with you with only a passing glance.
And he was always a constant presence at your side, just a not so gentle reminder to others that if someone were to mess with his baby, they would have to deal with him.
The whole party was together in the cramped basement, and Mike Wheeler was currently having a very heated argument with Steve—it’s worth mentioning it was a mostly one-sided argument, as Steve just kept rolling his eyes and huffing.
You attempted not to show your giggling from across the room, it was amusing to watch your boyfriend banter with a younger teen boy.
“You can’t just ignore the rules when it’s convenient for you! Paladins don’t just get to attack when they think someone is evil, that defeats the whole purpose of the game!” Mike passionately gestured.
“Well then it’s a stupid game.” Steve grumbled. “I should be able to take someone down if I think they’re suspicious before they do something.”
“This is why no one plays any board games with you! Last time we tried to play monopoly you hogged every property!” Mike was getting angrier by the minute, while Steve was just getting more and more agitated.
You decided you were fit to interfere now, Steve’s forehead vein was becoming more prominent as his frown kept depending, and in order to keep Mike in one piece, you had to steer Steve away.
“Hey baby,” you approached, rubbing a soothing hand up and down his large bicep. Steve immediately looked down at you, and let a sigh of relief escape him.
“Finally, you’re here to save me from wheeler, you gotta agree with me sweetheart, these rules are stupid.” Steve spoke.
You laughed not taking your eyes off of his dangerously handsome face. “I think you’re forgetting Stevie, it’s a kids game.”
“Exactly! Which is why I shouldn’t be wasting any more time.” Steve grumbled, glaring down at Mike.
“Oh so you agree with your girlfriend, but anyoneee else is always wrong?” Mike ranted.
“Yes, because at least she has some common sense, which you seem to be lacking.”
Mike returned an annoyed expression but your face tightened and you grabbed Steve to direct his focus to something else.
“You need to calm down honey, you looked like you were seconds away from breaking the poor boy’s neck.” You said in a calm tone.
“Because I was, but it doesn’t matter anymore. Not when you’re here now.” Steve placed a hand on your waist, slightly pulling you in closer.
“Well then I’m glad I was here to help. Just don’t try to start another fight!” You reprimanded, though there was no real malice behind it.
“You know you look so beautiful right now, baby?” Steve whispered, a poor attempt at changing the subject.
“Yeah yeah, whatever.” It was your turn to grumble now, but you couldn’t keep the smile off your face. Any affectionate words from Steve always made you lose focus for a moment.
“Hey—only I do the grumbling here, you’re supposed to be the one with the pretty smiles.” Steve lectured.
“You’re lucky I love you Mr. Grumpy pants, or else who would?” Saying the words against his mouth as you kissed him.
“Yeah I guess I’m pretty lucky, I wouldn’t want to be loved by anyone else.” Steve admitted.
Steve raised his hand to cup your cheek, always sure and careful. “I always wonder, how do you not get tired of me? Everyone else does.”
You looked at him with softness, if anyone else were to be in your shoes they would see there’s so much depth and love to Steve than he lets on. It’s just that people have disappointed him time and time again, so he stopped expecting.
“I can’t believe you’re asking me that, as if it were an option. You may be a pain in the ass occasionally, but you’re my pain in the ass. And that’s all that matters.”
Steve pinched your side teasingly at your comparison, but his heart still warmed. “I don’t know what I would do without you, baby. I’d just be a lonely, stubborn man, waiting to be understood by someone.”
“Even if you were, in every universe I’d find you. What makes you think I’d allow someone else to come along and snatch you up? You’re more then a hot-shot than you realize.” Laughter bubbled out of you, but you meant every word.
“Oh am I?” Steve raised his brows. “Well, it never hurts to get complimented by a pretty lady every once in a while.”
You flushed, and Steve ducked down to kiss you again, even in an openly public space he couldn’t contain his love for you.
The rest of the kids stood in the corner, elbows crossed, shaking their heads at the found couple displaying their love.
“He’s whipped! It’s ridiculous!” Dustin exasperated, pointing at Steve.
“And I thought his heart was made out of stone.” Lucas shook his head.
Other people may not understand your relationship, but Steve never cared—all that mattered was that you knew he adored you. And you adored him, even when you had to be the one to put a smile on his face.
Tony feeling sad 'cause the media keeps talking about how perfect Steve and Bucky would be together so Steve (who's grumpy at all these people assuming things) picks Tony up and carries him to their bed and snuggles him and Tony is all "wtf Steeeeve" and Steve just grumbles about people being dumb and shh it's beautiful
