grunge is actually a very powerful genre. it could be a powerful memory for people who actually plunged in this 90s rock music scene.

about, um, 6 months ago i actually talked to lots of people in their 20s-30s to know if they're into grunge, and also introducing them to the grunge shirt project. they usually end up smiling, and the conversation could be super fucking long because it's mostly them reminiscing the old days. "grunge? i remember that. we were wearing flannel and doc marts, walking, blasting out nirvana's nevermind.." "..i had this huge nirvana poster on my wall once, forgot where i put it now.." "are they still alive now? like, making albums? i don't think so."

and probably the most interesting conversation i had was with the 9th grade social studies teacher. when i first told him about it, he said "isn't grunge dead? kurt cobain is dead, so does the genre." so idk i told him there's still fans of the music so yeah. and then he started reminiscing as usual, buying copies of nirvana's nevermind. remembering how his high school used to craze over kurt cobain. he remembered some major names of grunge bands and we had a game of naming the most grunge bands, and i won. throughout the conversation he's like "wait what how did you know about grunge it has been so long" "oh my god you're young and you like grunge i think i like you" "wow grunge is long forgotten i'm happy you guys brought it up again" "wow grunge is actually such a beautiful genre it's been so long since i forgot about it"

i actually don't know what goes on in his mind, but he seem to avoid grunge at some point of his life and lived a period without the craze. and suddenly he feel like going all through it again. maybe he has really special memories with grunge. like idk. "remember when you went to that pearl jam concert in singapore?" "remember that song big dumb sex and you felt really horny?" "remember that old merch store that used to be at the corner of the street with loads of nirvana tees?"

well i just don't know. after his long lectures of world war 2 and vietnam before school ends, everyone got home. some stayed to play the guitar and sing. he usually looks at them, all smiling, and sometimes ask questions about music and stuff. and idk i think he's quite interested in music. and yeah he's grunge.

he's pretty moved with the conversation and all these times he's been turning super grunge. whenever i meet him he says "how's grunge?" and idk other grunge phrases and i see him wearing flannel in most of his photos 9th graders took and now in this year's yearbook he's posing as some grunger wearing flannel and there's 90s grunge written below it. tbh this never happened before. and he kept telling me that conversation was so moving for him idk.

so idk i just want to share this with you guys. well yep, to me, i miss grunge, something that happened before i was born.
