"Đi cà phê" - "Going to the cafe" - In Vietnam, or specifically Sai Gon, everyone embraces cafe culture. It's not just coffee culture, but cafe culture. It offers such casual and relaxing atmosphere that they can unwind after a long day at work, or to celebrate a laid back weekend. People go to the cafes around the clock, and that's the reason why you will see as many cafes in Sai Gon as you see houses (no jokes), each of them with their own style and menu and vibe. Even an old apartment building has turned into a cafe building, with each of the apartments being a cafe, a tea shop, or a boutique shop. If you ever visit Vietnam, never miss out on this! - Growing up we were below average income household. My mom started her own tailor shop and my dad worked for the government, both of which expressed the financial struggles of hustling and low governmental income. Despite that, mom and dad never let us live in shortage. We got everything that other kids had. My mom would make a my clothes and uniforms to save money (back then bespoke was not a thing and brand names were huge!). I was always drawn to food, ever since I was born. When I first learn colors, I pointed at Yellow and said "Egg color", Red and said "Chili color" 😌 Mom usually tells the story of taking us to a cafe to have ice cream. That scoop of ice cream cost about $5, but for her it felt like $500 because it was her entire monthly income (yea, $5). She started my hunt for good food since then, obviously!
