I got news of character designer and animator Takahiro Kimura's passing at age 58. Honestly, it feels a bit surreal to hear someone die at such a fairly young age.
I'm not going to pretend that I'm a big fan of all the series he's done designs for (I think GGG and Code Geass are overrated and I dislike Goddanar because it's clear everyone there worked on it with one hand, if you know what I mean.) But there is one work he did that meant a lot to me:
And that is Gun X Sword. Other than being my bf's second favorite anime, it's honestly in my top 10 favorite anime of all time. Other than simply being an entertaining ride, it's one of those anime series where the basic summary is so simple, you might pass it over, but it's the ride you go on that makes it so amazing. That's because Gun X Sword is a deconstruction of the vengeance plotline you will see in most media. I'll do a longer post some other day on it, but I also recommend watching it. It's a series that means a lot to me.
