@acatpiestuff has real good TFOCs, and my brain wouldn’t let me rest until I was suuuuuuper mean to Gunwale, Bubblewrap’s mentor/guardian. We stan a devoted, loving parent and their weird jellyfish baby.
Posted with permission, Gunwale and Bubblewrap belong to Catpie, not me.
scribbled this down so fast after seeing @thanksjro‘s comic he drew of bubblewrap and gunwale
the line “its just you and me against the world, kiddo” has been ROTATING in my brain and will continue to do so
I would think that as they developed, Bubblewrap would equate Gunwale with “home” and “safety”, immediately feeling at ease once they knew Gunwale was near. Even in the face of danger, they trusted Gunwale to know what to do.
Gunwale on the other hand, is so terrified for Bubblewrap. Cybertron is a dangerous place for anyone at this point, and so many things keep happening. They’re very overwhelmed, but they’re trying their hardest to make sure Bubblewrap stays alive, stays happy, and most of all, stays out of the war.

What are your influences and inspirations for your art and characters?
When I look at Gunwale, it reminds me of a mix between two video games: 2009's Borderlands and 2011's Rage.
The 3 big ones for Gunwale are...
Royal Space Force: Wings of Honneamise
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
and Studio Ghibli films like Nausicaa and Princess Mononoke
I find as I get older, I gravitate towards the simple and clean designs of these movies/series. I'm not trying to copy any of them but they definitely inform my design process along with 40+ years of doing my own thing.
And now me always wanting to design lots of characters starts to makes sense... IYKYK
Just a slight change to Greeley's basic costume that's a little more summer-y.
