Vision, Design, Build, Inhabit
Four years ago, Architectural Design teacher Sonia Greiner was contacted by alumni of Indiana University to have her advanced students design and generate three dimensional renderings of a proposed lecture hall to be built on the campus of a geological field station in the mountains of southwestern Montana. Their months of work and presentations created were used to present this vision to hundreds of alumni of the field station. This resulted in raising $3,000,000 in private donations for the construction of several buildings, including the lecture hall facility as the keystone of the project.
Last fall the construction began, and the building is nearly completed. Details of the project can be viewed on the IU website. http://www.indiana.edu/~iugfs/facilities.html
Alumni member and parent of former Architecture student Craig Davis praised Ms Greiner for her "leadership, teaching methods, guidance, and encouragement of the students involved was instrumental in creating this vision...and all former students who have learned from you the joy of tackling difficult challenges and the reward of their successful efforts."

A Penny For Your Thoughts
While Guthrie is a great place to learn, Houston is an amazing city. Our culturally diverse, economically strong, subtropical home is the Energy Capital of the World with more foreign cargo moving through our Port of Houston than anywhere else in the USA. We have also become known for the vast numbers of technology innovation companies making their home here, excellent colleges and universities and of course our world-renowned Medical Center.
But the main identity of Houston, both locally and in the minds of much of the world, is rapidly disappearing. We are Space City, home of Johnson Space Center that coordinated manned space exploration starting with Gemini, through Apollo and the Space Shuttle missions. In 1969 the name 'Houston' was the first word spoken from the surface of the Moon to the entire world. The Astrodome, Rockets, Astros and Aeros are proof of the synonymy among Houston, NASA and the space program.
Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson released a video last year about the importance of space exploration and how it positively impacts all areas in our society, and of course in Houston. Now there is a follow-up video 'We Stopped Dreaming Episode 2 - A New Perspective', that continues this message to inspire continuing space ambitions and of course perpetuate Houston's nickname of Space City.
