George Harrison and Josée Nadeau at a party Guy Laliberté held at his home in Montreal Quebec, Canada. (2000)
NOTE: Josée Nadeau is a world-renowned artist, and from this encounter with George she was inspired to start painting in front of orchestras. I've been wanting to know more about this, but could only find vague descriptions since she hasn't done many interviews. This is the most detailed version I could find.
Ronn Moss: I’m very blessed to have heard the story where you met and got a personal little concert – with just the two of them – with very dear George Harrison, who obviously is a huge influence on me and my career, and you were able to meet him. Just give an overview of what happened because people will love that.
Josée Nadeau: Right. In 2000 I met him. I was a guest of Guy Laliberté, the founder of Cirque Du Soleil, and um, actually I arrived at the firepit, and I met George. From afar there was someone singing in Scottish, and I said, “George, who is that?” I think he was surprised that a fan or somebody would be with him, and be interested more in the music than actually going, “Hey, great to meet you.” I mean I did say that, but – so, of course I asked him three times basically, “What is that?” [laughs]
Moss: And he kept saying…?
Nadeau: “Er, excuse me?” [laughs] That’s what he said.
Moss: “Excuse me?”
Nadeau: Three times. And finally he said that was his best friend Norbert Haug of Mercedes-Benz, and he was singing in Scottish. And that’s when he asked me, “Would you care to join us?” Which I did, and he was delightful. It was a very creative encounter on both fronts. He sang to me for four hours with – actually we were not just the two of us –
Moss: Four hours. George Harrison sang to Josée personally, and it wasn’t in front of a group of people. It was in a little back section by themselves, and he just decided this was his audience right here.
Last night was so epic. I’ve been really enjoying the PY1 Nights pyramid experience in its US debut but being in the DJ booth with the founder who’s also a founder of Cirque du Soleil? Pretty killer. Great to catch up with Idris Elba again, too. The lights, sounds, and feelings are still with me today! Thank you Guy Laliberte for visiting our fine country for this one! #py1nights #pyramid #guylaliberte #edm #dance #cirquedusoleil #dfw
