‘mother of the year is one of the few books in choices where I absolutely HATE the antagonist. Usually I'm indifferent or hell I even like the antagonists in other books but something about guy is just so rooted in reality that I just REALLY loathe him.’

Nobody asked but...a few months after MotY ends, Guy gets tired of paying child support (and never catches up on back pay) and he disappears again.... Laura fights for full custody and it's granted. The court tracks down Guy to pay his child support still. Laura convinces Guy to give up paternal custody in exchange for forgiving all the years of back child support. He agrees (because he's selfish and just wants his money).

But in doing so, Levi is able to adopt Lily and become her legal father. Levi would never give up that girl, not for anything in the world. ❤️

No cuz seeing people replay MoTY is making me think of how Vanessa literally took joy in trying to take MC’s child away just because she personally didn’t like MC. And the main reasoning for her dislike was that MC was poor and poc (if yours wasn’t white).... Yet PB really tried to make us believe that Guy not knowing what his daughter wants to be when she grows up would somehow give Vanessa a change of heart.... even though him damn near killing her due to negligence and just generally being a deadbeat dad didn’t

This part always gets me so bad.... I just, I can't help but think, how Thomas knows and feels everything he's saying here. He knows he has the money to support Luz, but he also knows how that money would never be enough to replace Soledad, and he sees how despite all the difficulties, MC loves Zoey and how, Guy is trying to take away the very same thing from another child. And I just- I have a lot of feelings at this part😭
