Lowkey forgot about this lmao, but I posted the third chapter of my TDI rewrite about a week agooo.

I actually loved this chapter so much. I had masses of fun writing the Gwent interactions as this is when we kinda see how compatible they are. The challenge lasted for something like three days and you're telling me they were just chatting for most of it? I actually love them omg 😩

I also wanted to play around with giving the characters slightly different outfits each episode and tried to do a hand-camo pattern thing on Trent's turtleneck. Not sure how well it came out.

As someone with life-impairing OCD I have a bunch of thoughts and feelings about Trent's character derailment and they are here, packaged into a fun little OCD box ('fun'). Like the person I am, I wanted to share some of my thoughts and opinions about the inclusion and execution of OCD in Trent's character.

There are different types of OCD, but it all sort of stems around doubt. An intrusive thought enters the brain, then you feel almost required to carry out the compulsion to create a short-lived sense of comfort and relief. Personally, I struggle with contamination, and it seems like Trent might have something along the lines of: 'if I don't blink nine times my family with die' or kinda what they were trying to push in the show, 'if I don't do everything in set blocks of nine, Gwen's gonna break up with me.'

There are so many ways that Trent's OCD could've been written better, but there are two things that bug me the most: the inconsistency, and the fact that the writers gave Trent OCD to make him 'undateable' to Gwen. Instead of making them talk about it and communicate, the writers had them break up, pushing the narrative that people with OCD are weirdos and should be pushed away just because of their mental state.

For the consistency side of things, I would've been much happier if the writers were even consistent with handling Trent's OCD within action. But they weren't. It only showed up when they wanted to use it as a plot point - and I'm not really even mad about that. They could've chosen to focus on Trent's OCD for his character arc that season, like make it a tad more subtle (and accurate) and have him trying to work on it and let his friends know what's going on with him.

I'm not even going to talk about how his OCD disappears in his brief World Tour moments...

TDA AU but Courtney doesn’t fall into the green jelly, stays on the diving board heading for the dock, and in the craziness of trying to avoid getting slammed into the “sled”, Trent gets shoved away by a panicking Lindsay and Beth.

Courtney gets to compete again, Trent’s on the sidelines, which bums him and Gwen out at first, but he does look at it as maybe being a good thing - especially with their budding relationship.

This would mean that quite a few things happen or could happen

Gwen loses her Alien Chunks necklace since she was too far from the grate when she finally spots it.

She or Duncan would have found the eggs - much to Courtney’s displeasure aside with the fact that she’s covered in slime, which is a runnier version of the object of her phobia - and even if Gwen also got slimed than I could see Chris choosing Gwen as the other leader since she was the second closest to winning and another equally strong player since she knows the genre so well.

You put Courtney on either team and things could play out interesting depending on the scenario

Trent using those muffin sneaking skills to somehow sneak Gwen a gift - it’s not the necklace, but hopefully a good placeholder for now.

Courtney either being on the opposing team or on the same team as Duncan, but not the leader could lead to a confrontation and possibly the first big hurdle between the two.

Trent sneaking on and off the set *cue Pink Panther theme song* to spend time with Gwen. How he does this? That’s a secret 😉 Chris eventually finds out, tries to keep Trent out cuz he’s distracting from the drama, but that’s one determined Musician in love.

Leshawna, Beth, and Lindsay teasing and wanting details from Gwen about how things are going with her Music Man.

Harold acknowledging Trent’s “Girl Whispering” skills and carefully documenting like a National Graphic study in hopes of truly unlocking and mastering his own “Girl Whispering” skills to win over Leshawna.

Justin sensing an opportunity when he sees that things seem bumpy between Duncan and Courtney.

Duncan being very conflicted cuz it’s Princess, but it’s also Princess...

Aftermath having a segment of Trent outfoxing all of Chris’s Trent-Be-Gone tactics - it’s equal parts Looney Tunes, Ferris Bueller, and Mission Impossible - hilarious and impressive.

Duncan getting less kiwi hits from Courtney

Remember that scene in the Owen finale with Trent hefting up Gwen over his shoulder and she’s yelling and laughing while hitting his shoulders/back as he’s grinning the whole time and playfully holding her hostage until she finally concedes to going out with him?

I fucking love both endings honestly 🥰

in a AU universe where the Networks FUCKED THEMSELVES and let Tom and his team do what they originally wanted/planned.

Trent: “I’ll do it!”

Gwen: *smirk* “Is that so?”

Trent: *eagerly and throws arms up* “I’ll shout it to all of Muskoka!” *Was facing the edge of the prop cliff* “No...” *Drops arms to sides, turns around and grins at Gwen, not shouting anymore* “...I’ll tell the whole world.”

Gwen: *laughs, still humoring him* “Go on then.” *she’s calling his bluff*

Trent: *smirks, walks confidently over to her away from the edge, leans in close with that smile still on his face, which is now making her blush a bit from the proximity and whispers* “I love you.”

Gwen: *blush deepens, swallows, & whispers back* “...why did you whisper?”

Trent: *chuckles, leans back* “Because you’re my whole world.”

Gwen: *Gwen.exe overheated*

Probably one of the few good things that came out of Covid was a tidal wave of all forms of creativity, and for the Total Drama Fanbase - a resurgence in what many had deemed a “dying fandom”. Well apparently it’s not as dead as people once thought all thanks to the power of binge watching on Netflix!

And in the spirit of resurgence, I thought I’d do my damn hardest to bring back a Ship Week that I haven’t heard much about since 2013, but I know that there are still loyal and loving fans of this pairing that yearn for that long dreamed 2nd chance. There’s next to no chance of that happening in the series thanks to what’s happened, how it ended, and even Tom’s own repeated admissions to there “not being a market for the Original Total Drama anymore” (yeah right...), but that doesn’t mean us fans can’t still continue that legacy in our own way, am I right? Hell - it’s why fan seasons, fan comics, fan art, and fan fictions exist in the first place!! 😉
