Hummer is an American automobile brand that was in turn owned by AM General and General Motors corporations. Initially (since 1992), a civilian version of the M998 Humvee army SUV was produced under this brand. In the 2000s. GM has developed smaller H2 and H3 models for urban use.

These shortcomings were fully compensated for off-road, where he had no equal in cross-country ability. Technically, the Hummer H1 is not far from its military prototype. It had a massive steel ladder frame, independent suspension on wishbones of unequal length and springs front and rear with 231 mm wheel travel, ventilated disc brakes, 16-inch wheels and 37x12.5 R16.5 tires with an electronic pressure change system ( CTI). The SUV had permanent all-wheel drive with a 2-speed transfer case and a center differential.

Initially, the car was offered with a 6.2-liter V8 diesel engine producing 150 hp. and a 3-speed automatic transmission or with a 5.7-liter petrol Vortec 5700 with 190 hp. and a 4-speed gearbox. Later, a 6.5-liter GM Diesel V8 became available in regular and turbocharged versions.

The final, modernized version of the Hummer H1 Alpha 2005-2006. was powered by a 6.6-liter Duramax LLY V8 turbodiesel engine with 305 hp. and a 5-speed automatic transmission Allison 1000. Despite the large interior space, the 4-seater cabin was quite cramped, since most of it was occupied by a huge transmission tunnel.
