H*ngman was an enjoyable asshole in canon before fandom ruined him completely.

I trust one person to write Hangman is @boasamishipper. But i avoid reading most fics with him because people try to smooth him over.

I am sure some people have written him in a more canon form, but how a lot of people have written him have turned me off from most fics with him.

Listen me and my friends all write Maverick differently, but he is still Maverick.

I dunno who Hangman is supposed to be.

Hm i don’t know if I rly see hangman as a mix of mav and iceman at all, he’s a technically good pilot, he’s cocky and he leaves his wingman? that’s about it (maybe I haven’t looked at his character enough), I’d be interested to know what you think about this, if you feel like sharing your thoughts, that is

So here is my hot take, okay are you ready:

Hangman is an amalgamation of people's incorrect assumptions of Maverick and Iceman from the original top gun.

People assume that Maverick Mitchell in og Top Gun is a huge asshole who is only out for number one at all times. When that isn't in fact true. He goes back for Cougar, against the wishes of the majority of his flight team.

Maverick only leaves his wingman in a serious situation once. But he does feel regret and says he knows better.

Whereas Hangman does that so much it is his name.

Iceman is a bit different. Hangman and Iceman are alike because I feel like without the input of Val in his character. He would've been a lot like Hangman. Just the antagonist, nothing more.

If that makes sense, that's how i view it anyway.
