So, I have been writing my heart out these last few days, but I still need some time to edit the stuff and there are still a few moving pieces which require a larger context to slot into place, so I will be updating soon, but I am really so knackered, I cannot get myself to start editing. But.
I just went through some of the pictures from my Viking road trip part 1, I did last year.
I don't think I have mentioned this one before, but when I visited Copenhagen and Roskilde (the Viking Ship Museum not the festival, because honestly, I am just that kind of geek) last year, a map fell into my hands. A map with aaaall the Viking museums in Denmark. And I made it my mission to visit them all (see what I am talking about with the whole geek thing?). I am currently at 4 out of 12, I believe, plus 1 extra, because it is in Germany, and that is where these pictures are from. Last August, I started on said mission and took my bike on the train and drove to the small German town of Schleswig. Site of the Viking age city of Haithabu aka Haddeby aka Hedeby the name fans of Vikings (the show) are probably most familiar with. So, this is part of the Open Air Museum (again, not the festival type).
Just in case anyone wanted to know, but I guess no one did, from Schleswig, I took a regional train to Flensburg, just to ride my bike across the Danish border and over to Toender (just some 50km), because apparently there is no train connection from east to west in that area of Denmark. From Toender I took the much appreciated Arriva tog to Ribe aka Ripa. It was quite the adventure in itself, but totally and absolutely worth it. I didn't make it up to Bork this time, but if we get to travel again this summer, Bork will be the next cross on the map.
Anywho, here is beautiful Hedeby:
