I love how RWBY writes realistically what someone having a breakdown and snapping looks like and y'all try to find a villain in the scene when it's not about that.
Ruby lashed out. She took her anger out with all of them. She yelled at Weiss, specifically “gotta go home” knowing that Weiss had just lost hers (though I don't think it was intentional). She yelled at Blake and Yang— who has always sacrificed everything for her (even her own life)—because for once she focused on her own happiness. At Blake, who only a few episodes ago mentioned how Ruby inspired her, for trying to be positive like Ruby taught her to do. And she also mentioned “mourning Jaune's make-believe friends” in an extremely condescending tone after the guy literally lost everything again. She was being cruel, and the whole thing was messy, and ugly, and that was the whole point of the scene. That's what someone snapping looks like. She's a teenage girl in a horrible mental state lashing out and saying things she is gonna regret later. She's not the villain. And neither are WBY for looking affected or upset at first for what Ruby said: it's realistic, because what Ruby said was hurtful and wasn't okay and even then at the end they didn't look mad, they looked concerned, I don't know if you guys are watching or not at this point.
And Jaune also lashed out and said horrible things and took it out with Ruby. It wasn't okay. He's not the bad guy either, he's just another deeply traumatized person who also bottled up his feelings and snapped, just like Ruby. And just like Ruby, it wasn't pretty, it was awful and it was very, very messy, but that doesn't make him evil.
The whole scene is grey, and the fact that some people are trying to see it black and white and trying to find a bad guy when they're all right and wrong proves that many people in this fandom lack media literacy.
