Hehe, @sea-grunks-dating-sim I made a lil’ something :)
So, this little fixation for a grunkle dating game made me create a whole new species with whole new lore and a GF self insert/oc. Fun!
Anyway this right here is Daffy, full name Daffy Dew and they’re a fishfellow! (do not confuse them with mermaids, those two have an extensive rivalry that’s lasted thousands of years)
I’m still contemplating if I should make this character stick to the story of Sailing with Stans or if I should just stick to the general concept for the game but mostly do whatever I please.
I unfortunately couldn’t play the game, BUT I was able to watch a play through of it! :) Though that also means I’m blind in terms of knowledge about chapter 2.
Daffy + fishfellow info below cut!!
Let’s start out simple with Daffy. Daffy Dew is a fishfellow who resembles a clownfish! And staying true to the name, Daffy is quite the comedian and also a big time yapper. She’s very social, even with supposed threats or strangers, and enjoys sharing his interests with others.
Daffy goes by whatever pronouns YOU want to refer to them! That’s why I kept switching it up if you noticed. They’re also neurodivergent, specifically autistic and a dissociative amnesiac. While non-traditional gender identities and neurodivergence isn’t a concept among fishfellow, Daffy is still treated like an outcast because of those things.
Also, Daffy really likes minerals. And by like I actually mean love to the point of combustion! They’re a total rock nerd to the point that he could ramble on and on for hours about specific gem formations, each different type, how to determine hardness and toughness, etc.
—A few other facts—
Daffy is around in her mid to late 30s in human years.
Daffy is adopted and has an older sister, Clover Dew. They are nothing alike and constantly bicker. They still love each other, though.
Daffy is a nickname for her actual name, Daffodil.
Daffy loves collecting little trinkets and is fascinated by manmade contraptions, especially utensils.
Daffy is shamelessly inspired by Dory from Finding Nemo.
Fishfellow Lore Time!!
Fishfellow are rare creatures who live in every inch of the world. They as a whole are distrustful of humans due to bad history with them. The fishfellow’s exact origins are unknown, but they believe that they once roamed as humans who were blessed by a sea god due to their kindness for nature, able to transform their legs into tails and arms into fins, and swim along with ocean life.
They deeply respect their elders and choose their Ruler based on age and wisdom. It’s in fishfellow belief that whitened hair as you age is an outward display of purity and elegance. Fishfellow also age slower than humans, typically living for 200 years, though some fishfellow populations live longer than others.
Fishfellow love shiny objects and sea shells, they frequently give them to each other as gifts! A kindredness for nature is also key part of fishfellow culture, and the disrespect of nature will anger them, which is another reason why they don’t interact with humans.
All fishfellow have a regular fish counterpart, or a “mirror fish” as they call it, and you can see the which family is which thanks to it. They also inherit some of the behavioral and physical aspects from their mirror fish. For example, since Daffy’s mirror fish is a clownfish, they are immune to anemone stings and exhibit territorial behavior regarding things she deems of importance. Like her rock collection.
Interspecies mixing can and does happen, with varying results. The offspring of two different types of fishfellow can either inherit entirely from one parent, have some from one parent but the other’s traits dominate, or it’s a perfect blend of both parents.
Fishfellow are able to change the amount of fishiness in their forms. They can become something human-like, do a half n’ split between fish and human qualities, or become an actual fish.
Daffy Doodle Down Here!!
Daffy takes on this form once they’re more comfortable with the Stan twins (well, except for the clothes obviously, since they’re in the arctic). Here, Daffy’s able to walk around while still embracing her fishfellow heritage!

it was supposed to be the biggest party of, perhaps, that decade. musicians and performers of all walks would be attending; after all, inkopolis had been saved from a genocidal threat - what else was there to do but party? the new squidbeak splatoon had patrolled the deepsea metro, finding no traces of commander tartar or his weapons, though kamabo co. still operated as a shell without him. sanitized octarians might still serve a problem, but the clever nature needed to escape the metro was lost to them without tartar, so even octarian domes were safe.
newly reacquainted with her name and most of her memories, eden… did not feel that way. even as she tried to have fun, she kept vigilant. glancing up, around the dam walls, for anything. commander tartar was an ai, she tried to convince people, he could have had backs up.
even if he did, they had done such a blow to him, to kamabo co! what could they do? relax. enjoy the low water party. she’d packed a bag near perfectly, full of weapons, clothes and armor, canned specials, extra food for little buddy; all just in case. she hummed calamari inkantation under her breath, to self soothe. really, she showed up to the party at the metro to serve as protection.
eden had been above ground for a month by the time of the low water party. in canon, it’s fun! despite being on edge, she’d managed to have fun, jam out, and go home after a long night of partying. canonically, the worst that happens to eden is a killer headache from being up all night.
in this world, though…
soon after the rave begins, eden hears a wall crumble, and chaos ensues. sanitized troops storm in, heralded by the ringing of a telephone. the party was over - being good at a sport doesn’t mean that any of the inkopolis denizens were going to be good at a real battle. the sum total of fighters were: a small collection of x rank teams, the new squidbeak splatoon, marina and pearl, and eden, against an overwhelming rage of machines and wrong octarians.
commander tartar had a planned assault, ready to destroy as many of the inkopolis citizens as it could. searching for an out, marina saw something, out of the corner of her eye. an old project of kamabo co., a type of warping that used a lot of the same tech as respawn points, but had no care for space or time. marina only knew that they weren’t fatal - she’d no clue as to where they’d take the partygoers. with little choice, and so many already gone, she ushered people in. in an ink filled room, the few left disappear, hurtling through untested technology.

eden yaki wakes up under a sea of stars, and on a bed of grass. her entire body aches - a deep ache, and she could fall back asleep right now. but, then, she hears a strange sound - a high pitched cry, of something hungry. something she doesn’t want to meet. she has no reference for where she is - her phone has no signal, and the stars are… different. there’s too many of them! marina’s plan definitely saved lives. it might also cost eden hers.
despite her anxiety and her exhaustion, she finds the north star, and trudges towards it. a teenage girl, face still covered in glitter, with a big backpack, three weapons strapped to her, a pink electric guitar, and a smallfry riding on her shoulder; it was like a movie. except in this movie, there wasn’t a miraculous reunion or evocative song playing. just the quiet, sad humming of eden, and little buddy panting in her ear. he nuzzles against her forehead, as if to say that it was okay.
eventually, she meets the treeline, and finds herself looking at a long, two lane highway. cap’n cuttlefish had, for a while, been going on and on about getting her driver’s license, and she hates that he was right. what option was there, but to walk? her legs feel terrible, buckling underneath her, but eden continues to walk. she guesses that it must be about midnight. her first sign to turn back was a billboard - the text is in a language she’s only seen at ark polaris. the next sign, however, was a whirring light, and a siren behind her.
No, no, she thinks. she’s not breaking any law! … is she? inkopolis had no curfew, except during splatfests, but that was a public safety thing, what with the tournament lining the streets. was this also that? for a smart girl, eden suddenly felt dumbstruck. she had no lies, no back ups in her head. just an empty road and a new enemy.
the car stops beside her, and the window is opened. as it slowly lowers, a creature with features much like people she’s seen before apepars - humanoid, yes, but then, there’s more. what looked like sharp, wiry fur grows out of its head, and a cast of more around its chin. it... no, no! it physically could not be- shaking like a leaf in a storm, she reaches for her dualies - wait, would they even work on— on—
I’ve been watching a channel named Night Mind for the past few months none stop, why is it that i always end up getting stuck in spookers with charming voices.
Anyway, I've been meaning to get better at drawing cats, so decided to give @nick-nocturn a doodle
was not a good idea to throw in perspective shots in with the cat practice U_U
