when his eyes met your frame, hunched slightly over a book as if you were bored, time stopped. his chest hurt as if he’d just done a thousand rolling thunders in a row. his breath, erratic and giddy, made his throat ache in the hot summer weather.
his fist was knotted in tanaka’s uniform jacket before he could stop himself, this feeling unable to be contained. “ryu. who is that?”
tanaka followed noya’s line of sight to where you were now packing your things into your bag. he couldn’t help but scoff. if nishinoya had been in his right state of mind, he would have recognized the plaits of your uniform skirt.
“don’t know, but she obviously goes to aoba johsai.”
maybe you’d felt their eyes on you, because you suddenly looked up, and nishinoya imagined glittering hearts and stars filling the air around him.
with a quick up-down look, you tossed your bag over your shoulder and marched off toward the stadium.
“she doesn’t seem—“
“i’m in love.”
“—very interested.” but when has that stopped either of their admiration before?
nishinoya rubbing his hands together, fully prepared to follow when you were suddenly approached by two slightly older, much taller gentlemen.
his immediate instinct was to jump in there and defend you, but then you smiled and looped your arm around the bicep of the one with spikey hair. when he turned his head to smile fondly at you, yuu’s jaw hit the floor.
iwaizumi hajime. which meant the other man, the one hunched over weirdly to make you laugh, was oikawa tooru.
“oh, right,” tanaka commented halfheartedly as he spun on his heel. “i forgot about oikawa’s little sister and her seijou bodyguards.”
nishinoya would have slumped to his knees if not for his friend’s arm around his shoulder. normally, that wouldn’t stop him. but he and oikawa played the same game, and as a proper upperclassman, he didn’t want to make things awkward for ka—

nishinoya yu x oikawa!reader. fluff, crack ft bro oikawa
nishinoya started seeing you everywhere from that point on. there were several games that seijou didn’t play where he’d catch you in the stands beside your brother in his cheap camouflage. he always tried to avert his eyes to maintain your hiding spot, but it was like gravity refused to let him pull his head away.
he knew you saw him. even high up in the stands, nishinoya could see the color flood your cheeks as you tried to duck your head and hide your face beneath your cap.
the match started soon after, and nishinoya refused to make a fool of himself in front of you.
they didn’t need a third set—clearing the game in two. throughout both sets, yu found his gaze skittering into the stands. tanaka caught him once when they were swapped out and awaiting their return to the court, his attempt at smothering boisterous laughter behind a hand futile.
“bro, stare any longer, and your pupils are gonna shape themselves into her head.”
nishinoya huffed dreamily. “i’d never look away from my reflection again.”
now that they were free to exit the court, tanaka caught him by the shoulders and shook. “go, my man! shoot your shot! ask her out!”
despite the playful lilt in ryu’s voice, yu straightened his spine and popped both hands confidently on his hips. “don’t wait up! but leave without me, and i’m never receiving for you again.”
ryu’s protests followed him as he darted toward the visitor stand entry and exit. he only came to a skittering stop when your figure appeared in the distance.
cue the romance ost, the glittering effects, the baby cupids and their love arrows. nishinoya stumbled over his feet as he approached you, your back turned to him and head bowed as if staring intensely at whatever was in your hands.
when he was close enough, nishinoya barely managed to utter a hesitant, “um,” before you were jumping and spinning around to face him. instantly, your face flushed with color.
“oh! um, it’s you again..!”
you said you meaning you, but noya heard yu and immediately brightened to a level that rivaled hinata.
“yes! it’s yu! w-what are you doing here..?” please say to see me, please say to see me.
sweat beaded your forehead as you look around for any onlookers. sure you were disguised, but it was a cap, and you are an oikawa. “just. y’know..! my, um, brother! yes! my brother wanted to see the competition..! which just so happens to be your team!”
nishinoya’s disappointment was quickly offset once he realized the oikawa saw karasuno as competition.
pridefully, he stuck a thumb to his chest and lifted his head high. “haha, that’s right! we aren’t a team to take lightly!”
he continued laughing and chattering on about how much the team has grown, how proud he was, and you couldn’t make yourself look away. the passion in his tone was enough to bring a smile to your face, a soft one that brought him to a full stop once he noticed it.
you were fairly certain you saw steam floating from the spikes of his gelled hair as he declared, “you have a really beautiful smile!” before bowing deeply and disappearing around the corner.
flabbergasted and heart going like a hummingbird, you watched until he was gone before slapping the sides of your face to confirm that this was reality. of course, that was when your brother and his best friend finally made their way out of the stadium.
“you sick?” iwaizumi asked when he saw the coloring in your cheeks. you shook your head and ignored toru’s constantly little pokes to your head as he repeated for you to reply in an annoying voice.
blinking at the spot yu had just been, you stuck a hand out in front of your brother. “phone please.”
“i’m not gonna give you my phone because you said please.”
you looked over at him. he sighed dramatically and dropped the device into your waiting hand.
within seconds, you found kageyama’s contact and formed a brief message.
