Hakea in green with birds - Wanda Comrie , 2025.
Australian , b. 1970s
Oil on linen , 12 x 16 in.
Hakea multilineata
Hakea is a genus of Australian shrubs and small trees in the Protea Family, and H. multilineata has a big distribution in the southwest corner of the country. It can be a shrub, but it can also grow as a tree up to 6 meters tall. As can be seen in the upper photo, it has beautiful clusters of flowers grouped along the stems, with the long styles initially curled back, then straightening and sticking out. The long-persisting woody capsules are also interesting, as can be seen in the lower photo.
