Harold “Hal” Grey’s red, golden, white & blue uniform in Season 03, Episode 01 & 04.

Unpopular opinion but Diana Giabaldon needs to stop villanizing Hal. It's clear he cares about his brother, if he didn't, he could easily have had John hung forever ago, family name shaming be damned, he didnt have to get John a job in the prison to get his head on straight, he didnt have to do anything to help John clean up his act, becuase most of the time, the black sheep is ignored, alienated and disowned from the family, regardless of social status, instead, Hal did a lot to make sure that John found a purpose again after the Jacobite Riots and Hectors death (and yes he more than likely knows John is gay, he's not stupid). The unaddressed parentification issues that Hal has is contributing to who he is today. Us eldest siblings make the world go round and the author better stop shitting on Hal given that the DeVane Brothers are completely worthless and are a pathetic waste of carbon.
ok so considering there weren’t casting announcements for hal, dottie and percy in s7 (as far as i know), there’s still a chance of them being included in season 8 right? RIGHT? 😭
don’t know how much of the story they will be able to cover tho, since it’s going to be the last season and a 10 episodes one i think… but i want to see them??
they don’t have plans for a lord john spin-off series… i mean, DG already said that Sony producers are not interested right now and a spin-off series of jamie’s parents is apparently confirmed? so yeah, introducing dottie and percy and reintroducing hal would make sense if they wanted to do a lord john spin-off (if not for the sake of s8 plot itself), but they don’t want to.
either way all of them are important in the developments of books 7-9, and dottie is denzell’s romantic interest, sooo

So I’ve been thinking about Bees again (what else? lol) and the circumstances John and Percy found themselves in with Ezekiel Richardson, specifically about Richardson’s declared intent to kill John. Am I the only one who thinks Richardson killing John makes no practical sense whatsoever?
John is merely a means to an end - that end being leverage over Hal to prevent him from addressing the House of Lords and pushing for Britain to withdraw from the war. So how then would murdering John - Richardson’s only real leverage against Hal thus far - do anything to help him achieve his objective???
The only thing he’d have left to hold over Hal’s head would be the threat of public scandal (via the exposure of Neil Stapleton and Percy’s confessions) - and just how much weight would that hold with Hal if John was already dead? Hal would be more likely to be out for Richardson’s blood, if you ask me, given his temperament. lol
Not to mention that Hal’s main motivation for convincing the British government to allow the Americans to win is so his son, Ben, won’t be captured and executed as a traitor. And a living son holds more weight than an already dead brother. Therefore John is of more value to Richardson alive for the foreseeable future, ie. until the war’s end.
(Of course John and Percy understandably think Richardson is a madman for claiming to be from the future, and so have every reason to take his threat seriously even when actually carrying it out would (irrationally) undermine his ultimate objective. But we, the audience, know him to be quite sane, at least in so far as being a time traveler is concerned.)
