The real hero of Araluen is NOT Will Treaty. Yeah, you heard me right. Come at me, bro. It's not even Halt. HORRORS!
It's Daniel.
Because, almost none of it would have happened if it weren't for Daniel. Let's examine the horrors if we remove Daniel from the equation. As of right now, Daniel never existed. Poof!
Let's start at a very good place to start. THE BEGINNING! Everything would happen the same way--Halt being almost killed by Ferris multiple times, meeting Pritchard, running to Araluen, joining the rogue Rangers, defeating Morgarath at the Battle of Hackham Heath--up until those few days afterwards that they're chasing Morgarath's army back to the Mountains of Rain and Night. That's when everything falls apart. Halt rides to battle, and is struck down, surrounded. Since Daniel does not exist anymore, Halt is killed *cue funeral music and an unreasonable amount of bawling.* Since Daniel doesn't exist, his wife never has Will, so Will doesn't exist, Halt is dead and things go very badly.
Fifteen years later, Morgarath re-emerges. Since Halt is dead, he sends the Kalkara after Duncan instead and now Araluen is reeling from this vacuum of power. Neither Will nor Halt are there to help out Horace from the bullies, so he slowly turns to the dark side, is expelled from battle school, and roams around Araluen as a hired sword (instead of a hired gun) and falls into the employ of Morgarath and his henchmen.
Since Will doesn't exist, and Horace has become evil, Cassandra continues to roam around Celtica, and no one destroys the bridge. And Araluen is destroyed by Morgarath. Now Morgarath is king. The Rangers are dismantled and quite possibly killed if they don't escape again. But Morgarath will be on his toes this time, because he doesn't want at repeat of what happened last time.
Since Halt, Horace, and Will are out of the picture, and Halt isn't around to organize a strategy for the battle, the Skandians lose the war with the Temujai and now Hallasholm is a launching pad for the Temujai army. Dun dun dun! No Treaty is formed between Araluen and Skandia. Which also means that Erak never becomes Oberjarl and is never kidnapped, meaning the Araluens don't have cool friends like Selethen anymore.
What's more, Will would never have been sent to Norgate to investigate Malcom, Kerrin would be established as a Tyrant within Norgate, and the Scotti army would have invaded to raid Araluen.
Not to mention, the Outsiders would still be ravaging Hibernia, stealing all the wealth, gaining new followers, Ferris wouldn't have his tiny character arc and die. Nobody would be around to save the Nihan-jas from overthrow and dictatorship, and let's not forget Brotherband.
Brotherband would most likely have never happened. Or perhaps it would have happened a different way. Like Hal organizing a coup and revolting against the Temujai.
Since I haven't read much of the Royal Ranger, I can't go there, but I know at least that Maddie would most likely not exist, since Cassandra probably starved in Celtica and Horace is evil. Will doesn't exist, so he wouldn't have saved all the children. Perhaps Alyss would not have died, if she hadn't died earlier in the sequence.
Am I missing anything?
All that to say, Daniel is the GOAT. and should be recognized in Araluen as the MVP of all time.
(Speculation: Horace ends up overthrowing Morgarath and becomes the new King of Araluen after he gets tired of Morgarath's smugness all the time)

Summary: Those times when the Skandian national hockey team ran the world are long gone. But Erak, who used to be the captain of the unstoppable dream team and now is the coach of the juniors, feels like there is hope on the horizon, or more specifically, in the junior dressing room. He just needs to stop the young players from killing each other until the end of the championships, and explain to them that hockey is a team sport for a reason.
But maybe, the solution for his problem may be easier to find than he initially thought. And maybe, it has a shape of a kid who was dragged into the team by one of his old teammates.
or me, thinking putting herons, sharks and wolves into one hockey team was a good idea
Submitter’s notes: A Brotherband hockey AU in which new player Hal Mikkelson joins the brilliant but dysfunctional Skandian U20 team.
