I wrote this last time my hubby was deployed and found it again looking through things & needed it today. Reason #53 to Smile - Running

I signed up for my first half marathon as a way to keep myself focused, goal oriented and busy while my boyfriend is away.

The race is Saturday. and boy, am I nervous.

I've been running and training for it, but there is something about it that still makes me extra nervous.  I've been waiting for this race for months, and it's finally here. I guess we'll see how I do. Wish me Luck! Running 13.1 miles in honor of My Marine. <3

Half my Heart is Deployed: Woman and their Military S / O

Military couples know what it means to be strong.  The spouses, fiancees and girlfriends of the deployed soldiers do not wear uniforms, but fall into the silent ranks.  It is said that the spouses, fiancées and girlfriends of deployed servicemen have the toughest jobs in the military.  They are not part of the action, rather they sadly kiss their men goodbye on the day of their deployment, patiently wait at home hoping for an long distance phone call, lovingly send care packages filled with goodies, and are excitedly waiting for them when they return.  They serve the country in a different way, they are the ones who stand behind the active duty service personnel and give them the courage they need to keep fighting.  The men and woman who fight for America to protect our rights and freedoms make the biggest sacrifice for all of us.  Often we forget about what they are leaving behind.  The wives, fiancees and girlfriends of deployed soldiers know what it is like to march alongside their men with tears in their eyes.  This is why we want to acknowledge the brave wives, girlfriends and fiancées of active duty service personnel.  

Deployment is a major part of their relationships. Many times, it is the beginning of the relationship that often leads to a life together filled with memories, family and love.  Involvement in the military is something that will only be understood by the people who have served and their loved ones, and will always have an impact on their lives together. Often, men come back to get married to their girlfriends or fiancées who kept them going through the difficult times.  The love that they share gives them the strength to keep fighting through their deployment and gather the courage they need to fight for our freedom.
