Mortuary bag of a victim of the #HalifaxExplosion When the Mackay-Bennett began collecting the dead from Titanic, they used a system where each body was numbered, physical details recorded, and personal items placed in a bag with the same number as the body. After the explosion, the same system was used to help identify those killed, whose bodies were stored at an improvised morgue at the Chebucto Road School. #halifax (at Maritime Museum of the Atlantic)

Visiting Halifax and Peggy's Cove today. Knowing for the Titanic graves of those bodies that were recovered at sea, Halifax was also the site of a huge explosion of a munition ship in 1917 that killed over 2000 people, devasted the port, and was the largest human caused explosion before the denonation of the atom bomb. The pier near where we docked was where many Canadian immigrants arrived.
