I can't actually tell you how blown away I am with this. This is an old Forerunner OC of mine, Starfire Burns Brightly in the Darkness or Star for short.

I made her back when Halo 4 was super popular and we got our first real look at an actual Forerunner. I still remember when the Didact was introduced. If I could relive any gaming moment, it'd be that one hands down!

I haven't really drawn Star much since 2015-16 as I started to shift more of my focus onto my main Halo gal, Auri, and my Mass Effect elemental, Aluna. I'm really super pleased with how Star turned out here and, if I get around to it, I'll try and sketch out her brother. I've been meaning to revamp his name for quite some time buuuut I kinda forgot.

Imagine being born into a hyper-privileged lifestyle you didn’t ask for. All you want to do is be your own person and go exploring, going on adventures and trying new things. To combat your “ungratefulness,” your parents send you to a surrogate family so you run away from them, too. You run into an exalted but well-known stranger who calls you stupid, but then abducts you and corners you into doing what he wants with guilt, then accuses you of enjoying being a victim. So in the end you do what he wants. You’re groomed by him and, distantly, his wife, to undergo something you didn’t want, and you feel robbed of something very personal and special. But oh, remember! You’re an ungrateful son of a bitch who enjoys being a victim! You throw yourself at the dangers, traumas and turmoils you’ve been forced to face. You embrace your eventual demise, you make difficult and painful decisions so gruesome you have to send yourself into exile just to cope. You endure so much distress that you lament having not taken your own life after becoming a prisoner, just to be spared the responsibility and horrors thrust upon you. Your trauma is under appreciated, you’ve lost yourself, and only remember who you are in your dreams. You die a hero, at the tremendous cost of your individuality and innocence. People remember your sacrifices and triumphs, but do not honor your sorrow and losses. And, regardless of all the good and bad, your existence is in the shadow of the one who abducted you in the first place; your title is borrowed, as is much of your grief. For all of that, while what you did was right, the one thing you never got to be, was yourself…

How more of the fandom does not pay mind to Bornstellar, Chakas and their companions and stories truly blows me away. There’s bittersweet tragedy and triumph in these characters, in these pillars of the fandom, and they’re so overlooked.

I am now attempting to understand the Halo lore through Bornstellar’s story and… dude how did he have CENTURIES of communication with the Librarian if he fired the Array and she died? Was monitor Chakas with them for hundreds of years or only a few weeks/months?? Bc Bornstellar didn’t become the IsoDidact until late in the forerunners’ story and— AM I STUPID OR IS THIS JUST COMPLICATED?!

It’s hard for me to post unfinished work because I’m so aware of the flaws, but my partner Ash is so supportive and gave me so much confidence just now. So… regardless of who likes it or doesn’t, here’s proof I’ve been drawing; just haven’t finished or shown it. ♥️
