14 Must-Eat Pies in Chicago (Eater Chicago):
13 The PrivateBank Theatre, "Hamilton"
in preparation for the Chicago production of Hamilton, theatre staff looked for concessions that would emulate food consumed during the 18th century. That's when Eli's Cheesecakes came came up with "Revolution Pyes." Theatre-goers can get a two-pack of hand pies (apple, cherry) at the concession stands during intermission.
did you miss the hamildoc livetweet party? or just want to relive the glory? have no fear, the PBS stream will remain available for a limited period of time & Lin’s livetweeting party is archived here to follow along!

The Great Indoors: Young, scrappy and hungry, a Hamilton Fourth of July feast (Inforum):
For this Alexander Hamilton Fourth of July party, I've compiled a few of Hamilton's favorite foods and borrowed some cocktail recipes from Hamilton superfan and blogger Casey Barber of Goodfoodstories.com. I include two recipes here, and you can find the rest at my blog, thegreatindoors.areavoices.com.
The first recipe honors Hamilton's childhood in the British West Indies where the young boy, son of a single mom, survived on salted fish and pork. (Don't worry, this recipe is more cruise ship fabulous than Carribean scraps.)
By the time he came to America and started hobnobbing with the young nation's elite, Hamilton is said to have loved fine beef. In the book "Dinner at Mr. Jefferson's," author Charles Cerami says while dining with Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, Hamilton "praised extravagantly" the boeuf a la mode, or French beef stew. But beef stew seems a bit heavy for mid-summer, so I'm including a recipe for beef skewers instead. (I'm sure if A-Ham were alive today, he'd put on his Bermuda shorts, crack open a Bud Light and throw them on the grill himself. After all, he was "young, scrappy and hungry," right?)
At that same dinner with Madison and Jefferson, Hamilton is said to have "positively exulted" over dessert, a cream puff surrounding vanilla ice cream. And so, that's what we'll have for dessert. You can find both the beef recipe and the cream puff recipe atthegreatindoors.areavoices.com.
We need a cocktail to toast Hamilton and the country he helped build. That's where Barber's recipe comes in. She created "My Shot: An Alexander Hamilton Cocktail" which celebrates Hamilton's life by combining Caribbean rum with Virginia whiskey (and a few other ingredients). If you want to really go nuts with "Hamilton" cocktails, the site also features "Work! A Schuyler Sister's Cocktail" and "Aaron Burr, Sir: A Milk Punch Cocktail."
By the way, if you're wondering where I got the Alexander Hamilton shot glass pictured, it's from a site called Fish's Eddy. History buffs won't be surprised that they also sell an Aaron Burr shot glass.
