The third - and last released - issue of Dave Cockrum's follow-up series to The Futurians (1983), the ninth of a series of original graphic novels published by Marvel in the early 1980s.

Cockrum had completed a fourth issue in this series, but the publisher went belly-up before it saw the light of day. The fourth issue was included in a second graphic novel that reprinted the other three issues as well.

The Futurians graphic novel sold very well, as was reprinted twice. Marvel wanted to launch a comic book series but Cockrum, like so many of his colleagues at that time, heard the siren call of the indie publishers and decided to make his own way. Cockrum, as you can imagine, ended up regretting that he didn't take Marvel up on its offer. That was a regret shared by fans of the series.

Vandus Hammerhand on a Dracoth from Games Workshop, Age of Sigmar.  I finished this figure a couple months back, but I only just textured the base.

Some I wish they should have reintroduced other supporting characters from the Original series; like Willa and the Warrior Maidens, Hachiman, Mumm-Rana the Ever-Good, the Lunataks, Safari Joe, Mandora, Bolkins, and Wizz-Ro, etc, etc. You know?

Hiya! :’D So IIRC, quite a few of those characters were slated for the second and/or third seasons:

The Bolkin were going to appear in the second season for sure.

Hachiman was planned for the second season, but I’m unsure if that was set in stone. (I did get the impression that if he didn’t debut in the second season, he would’ve appeared in a later season, though!)

Mandora might have appeared in the second season, but I got the impression her appearance would’ve depended on whether or not they could fit her in anywhere. Or something.

The Lunataks were going to be the primary villains of the third season. Super bummed we never got to see them. orz

The Conquedor might have been unmasked as Safari Joe, depending. (The Conquedor was always intended to be the 2011 version of Safari Joe regardless.)

There were additional characters confirmed for the second season as well, like Hammerhand and his pirates, but I’m afraid I can’t name all of them off the top of my head… ^^;

Sadly, I haven’t heard anything one way or the other about Mumm-Rana, Wizz-Ra, or the warrior maidens.

I’m unsure about whether or not the warrior maidens would’ve ever appeared in the 2011 series, though. My first thought is that they wouldn’t because of the things the creators wanted to do with humans and Third Earth and so on…but I also have a hard time believing such prominent recurring characters would’ve been left out, too. Ya got me on that one, haha.

I really wish this series hadn’t been cancelled. It would have been freaking incredible.  ;-;
