New earrings!
My Howl collar is officially done! The outer layer is silk dupioni flat-lined with a lightweight cotton duck canvas and hand embroidered and beaded with an original design. The swarovski rhinestones and AB crystal beads just *POP* beautifully under stage lights :) The lining is a silk dupioni that I quilted onto a thin layer of fosshape and beaded with AB crystal beads at the points. Everything is bound with a gold and cream cotton brocade.
I’ll be working on the wildflower embroidery for the sleeves next and I am SO excited to wear this costume.
If you would like more frequent updates, I’m on my Instagram more often than here. The user name is the same, “hildorcostumes” ;)

Emilia & Green Jealousy
Emilia is the wife of Iago and she gets the green dress because green is often the color of jealousy. With her help, Iago sets in motion a plot to make Othello madly jealous of his wife Desdemona and tragedy results.
This version of the play is set in the 1920s, so my friend Chantelle the Dressmaker chose Vogue 8070, a pattern with a handkerchef hemline which was a common feature of the period. Notice that she also wise chose a pattern that has some hip interest as the gores of the dress are added at the hip line, without the heaviness of a belt a look that was typical of the 1920s look. This is an out-of-print pattern, but look on the web for copies if you want to find it.
She hand-beaded the motif at the center of the dress and the matching headband, but this was the only dress she could do that for as such detail takes time and there is a show to go on! Like the others, this is sheer knit that the actress can easily pull over her head and then she will wear it with a slip beneath that shuts with velcro.
These were all made for the Robinson Shakespeare Company, a group of young people who put on performances in the schools. You can learn more about them here: https://rclc.nd.edu/shakespeare/
