————————  it  was  CURIOSITY  alone  that  took  them  there  ;  it would’ve  been  easy  to  ignore  the  door,  too  EASY  not  to  turn  the  knob  and  walk  into  a  sea  of  darkness  that’d  take  shape  of  a  long - forgotten  /  BROKEN  /  room  that  shouldn’t  exist  anymore  but  was  still  there.  the  same  curiosity  that  led  them  to  the  underground,  to  snowdin  and  deeper  into  dangerous  places  --  the  same  curiosity  that  pushed  them  into  stepping  closer  to  the  strangest  figure  they’ve  ever  seen,  a  shattered  shadow  of  someone  /  or  SOMETHING  /  they  couldn’t  recognize.

(  because  honestly,  who’d  care  if  they  died  again  by  being  reckless?  )

and  they  get  close  to  the  strange  figure,  close  enough  to  touch  it  if  so  they  wanted  /  just  a  little  touch  to  make  sure  it’s  REAL,  it’s  THERE  just  like  them  /  but  the  voice  and  the  words  that  echo  suddenly  are  more  than  enough  to  freeze  them  in  place,  an  unbearable  cold  falling  over  their  shoulders  like  a  blanket  they  can’t  shake  off  ;  it’s  hard  to  breath,  to  think,  but  the  truth  behind  the  words  is  there  and  they  know  it  /  they’re  just  a  way  out  of  the  underground,  after  all.

(  an  unwanted  child,  a  replacement  for  a  long - lost  friend.  )

but  their  friends  deserve  a  chance  of  happiness.  they  deserve  to  get  out  of  the  darkness  and  enjoy  the  sun,  the  FREEDOM.  and  they’ll  find  a  way  out,  they’ll  find  the  right  answers  even  if  it  means  dying  /  for  real.  no  more  coming  back,  no  more  cheating  death.  as  if  it  really  mattered.

the  strange  figure  is  GONE  when  they  look  up  to  answer,  and  so  is  the  unforgiving  cold  /  but  they’re  still  shivering  when  they  stumble  out  of  the  room.  they  never  find  that  door  again  and  maybe  that  was  a  small  blessing  in  disguise  ;  still,  the  words  follow  them  close  to  the  very  end.
