you don’t remember how it started, well you do, but vaguely. It started off with Hange leaving some dishes in the sink, then a mess on the table, and then some smelly socks on the living room floor. You were by all means no neat freak but with Hanges known reputation for leaving a trail of untidied chores and a mess only a child could make it left you rather annoyed. It also didn’t help that you would constantly remind them and they’d apologize profusely before doing it again with no remorse.
the two of you would bicker like children and would throw snarky remarks here and there. Like a “oh! bet you can’t put your dirty clothes in the washing machine, because you don’t even know what that is!” and a “Well you don’t know how to fix a leaky sink, have fun with that darlin’!” and such. It wasn’t lighthearted goodness but not damaging comments that would leave you two with turned backs in bed. And when you and Hange would cross paths in the house, you two would knock into each other’s shoulders, look the other way with a light scowl and a hmph if one of you stared long enough. The two of you really weren’t letting up this time.
The pettiness from the two of you lasted half a day (a record for the both of you). Right before it ended you were in the living room, dusting up a shelf that hadn’t been touched in weeks. You didn’t really knew where hange was but you presumed they were in their study, fiddling with their experiments. The shelf held a couple things, a small picture frame, one of Hanges little figurines, some decorations and one heavy ass pot your mom gifted you when you moved into your home. It was a dark ashy green that was glazed and had the swirls of a pretty intricate design. The shelf was higher than you and reaching up was a bit hard, but better than letting up and asking your spouse for help. You were getting a bit tired from reaching so high so you’ll admit you were swaying your hands a bit hazardously when cleaning because you knocked that pot right over. The worst part was you were right under it.
You gasped right before it hit your head and when it did, you really got a taste of how fucking heavy it was. It collided so harshly and hard onto your head, like a workout weight mysteriously was swapped with the pot. It then fell onto to the floor with a sharp sound and broke into pieces revealing its cream white interior.
The pain was god awful, you felt your head pound immediately with the pain traveling all over your head.
Hange had called out your name from the other room then came stomping right in to where you were. They let out a sigh of relief as they thought you weren’t hit by it, then readying their snide comments to keep up their facade.
“hah, you just knocked the pot over.” okay captain obvious, you thought. The pain becoming so excruciating in the moment that you just wanted to bawl.
“You know, you should really be more careful instead of being clumsy. it just-“
you broke out in sobs as you held your head with your other hand still holding onto the duster.
As cheesy as it sounds you being in pain is like a trigger for Hange, because they immediately drop their previous pettiness to care for you. Like whatever happened before was the most insignificant thing in the world.
“ah, come here.” they pulled you to them and wrapped their arms around you, rubbing your head from where it fell. “does it hurt a lot?” and with a nod they reply with a kiss to your head.
They brought you away from the shattered glass and onto the couch. They zoomed for the freezer and grabbed a bag of frozen peas for your head. And although they were a scientist and not a doctor, they questioned if you felt dizzy or if you were going to pass out, making a checklist in their head to see if you had a concussion or not.
“Do you feel any dizziness?” they kneeled on one knee on the floor, a crease in their brow formed. You thought about how it didn’t suit them to be worried, like their features were made for displaying their lovable quirky expressions and not anything else.
“a little bit, but my—head mainly hurts.” you stuttered, finally having yourself calm down with an icepack on your head to reduce the pain.
“Alright, I don’t think you have a concussion but lets make a doctors appointment to be sure.”
Their lips quirked up a little into a smile and their eyes warmed up. “ya know, I think your head might be made out of steel if you didn’t get a concussion from that.”
you smiled at their joke, and they beamed right back at you.
“c’mere” they guided you to lay with them on the L part of your couch to cuddle. The petty Hange was long gone and replaced with a Hange who held you in their arms and kissed you repeatedly while they soothed you. Those earlier mess ups didn’t bother you anymore either, you just bathed in the comfort and love they offered you.
They let out a sigh and looked down at you. A remorseful look played on their features. “Next time, Just ask me to reach up there for you.”
they kissed you again and just held you there on the couch until you were better.
