FAT AS FUCK (http://fatasfuck.bandcamp.com/) Toronto freak ensemble straddles the lines between jazz, prog and brutal metal riffage. Smooth cultivated horns licks let loose a pummelling beat down of guitar desimation. Their horn section meanders amongst themselves as twisted synth lines, reminiscent of some NES game you spilt too much grape crush on, get into a deep fusion funk zone. 8 bit dreamscapes, blazed guitar lines and a locked in horn section. What more do you want.

MANNERISMS (https://soundcloud.com/mannerists) Toronto prog fusion unit unveil smooth synth creepers. Effected guitar work mingles with electronic drum samples in some blissed out universe. Melting away in a liquid desert, surfing the back water dunes to find the true funk origins. Deep pony tail zone let’s loose like the silkiest Herbie Hancock records. Come early to check this prog dad approved ripper!

HAOLIN MUNK (https://soundcloud.com/haolinmunk) Hamilton freak jazz quartet let’s it rip. Tight yet unhinged horns contort around each other. A thundering rhythm section prods forward underneath their controlled chaos. Bass lines bubble & pick up speed at a moments notice, as dueling saxophones howl into the ether. Known in Hamiltonfor a repetoire of warped cover tunes & blistering originals these dark city homies are not to be missed!

This was the first time I was able to participate in Supercrawl as a viewer. I was there last year in an artist capacity, and was this year (sort of). Last year I was DJing at the Baltimore House, and then performing/deafening everybody around me as part of the Cybernetic Orchestra. Here are just some things that happened over the course of a the weekend.

> scheming and wandering with my dear friend Andrea who I hadn't seen since high school.

> standing a line up that was 50% a mix of artists/hipsters/lesbians/some combination thereof and 50% scuzzball hoser types snaking through an exhibit that heavily promoted the nudity aspect. I saw it, it was very tasteful, not scuzzy at all.

> people picnicking from the food trucks on one side of James, and a police search for a suspect on the opposite side (take yr pick from the lineup of denizens)

> amazing art exhibit at HAVN on the Friday with the live jazz stylings of Haolin Munk and several auditory beat downs and melted vibrations. Glad to see the place packed.

> the police later checking up on us just to make sure we kept our noses clean, etc.

> walking through a military parade, where I may or may not have nearly collided with Prince Edward, or one of his underlings. Why Special Branch haven't phoned up to ask what I was think is probably a good thing

> performing on the Saturday at HAVN with Eschaton. Started off layering ambient/experimental tracks over Aaron/Connor's alto sax + cornet + noise box generator + beatjam combination, and then having poetry read over the top of that

> later DJing dubstep/juke/wxrped house records at around 100 bpm for a bit (seen doing so above, was told to look serious)

> randomly painting a wall in the Lister Block + winning a free pass to a museum of my choice in Hamilton (can't complain)

> waiting for the bus home, watching a older bloke in a suit jacket and ripped jeans drunkenly Charleston-ing down the middle of King Street, because traffic can go drive into the lake. Shine on you crazy diamond.

Basically a pretty awesome weekend. Stay classy and/or forward thinking, Steeltown.
