I actually had so much fun working on this, so thank you for making me think deeply about how I would go about adding Zi’er into this Universe!!

Name

Bai Zihao (白子浩)

— Zihao for friends and close acquaintances, though they do know his surname.

Happo Navy (Boo and his family especially)

Revolutionary Army (all of them, but the West Army especially since they’re his crewmates)

Koala and Hack (sparring partners in HQ)

Sabo (when he learns about the Happo Navy pledging allegiance to Luffy and asks if Zihao has any stories)

Ivankov (mentor!!) to a degree (xe makes up xer own names for him, as usual hah.)

— Zi’er is for his mom only.

He’s a mama’s boy! 💜

— Partner calls him petnames!

Regular ones: babe, honey, love.

Once they get serious about the relationship and partner learns Kanonese culture: A-Hao, baobei, xingan.

If partner addresses him by name (like on a mission) then he’s Zihao as well (unless undercover).

— Dexian is for undercover work or whenever he doesn’t wanna give out his real name.

People he just met rarely learn his first name (unless he deems them trustworthy for whatever reason) let alone his surname.

Kanonese (Chinese)

— Kano Kuni is located in the West Blue, and is better known as the country where the Chinjao Family comes from.

— It’s heavily implied to be China given the architecture.

Nonbinary. he/him.

— Other than his pronouns, everyone who knows him knows he uses gender neutral terms, so that’s what they use as well.

My child; the kid; pal; partner; spouse; etc.

He encounters gender neutral pronouns once he hits the Grand Line and slowly starts using they/them as well.

Ivankov immediately takes him under xer wing when they meet. 💜

— Whenever he’s referred to as male (the boy, the man, etc) he gently but firmly corrects them by saying he is not, though he does not explain further than a “how do you know you are [gender the other person identifies with]?” “I don’t know. I was just born like it.” “Exactly.”

It’s not his job to educate people, although he’s very kind (but no-nonsense) about it.

Physical Characteristics

Features

— He has gray eyes.

He has a beauty mark on the corner of his left eye.

— His smile is a little crooked.

It favors the left side, so it shows a sliver of his left fang whenever he smiles widely with his mouth closed.

At some point post-Revs he gets a scar on his lip after someone tries to kill him with a dagger and he abruptly drops to his knees to throw the enemy off-guard.

It crosses the right side of his mouth. It starts just below the beginning of his nostril, all the way down a centimeter below his lower lip.

— He has a cute button nose he inherited from his mom.

— Around Sabo’s size! (still short in comparison to everyone else, lol.)

— He’s very lean but muscular (think Sanji and Izou!). His clothes are very deceptive, which leads to enemies underestimating him.

Hair

— He has long, jet black hair; straight except for his bangs, which tend to windswept-curl.

— He keeps it in a ponytail for the most part, but once he meets Iva and the queens he lets them do it whenever they ask him to (they love his hair) and gets to try a lot of hairstyles. He loves the ones where he gets to use hair sticks the best.

— When he does let it down, it reaches past his hips.

Relationship Status

— Single (for now)

He actually has a boyfriend (his name is Kang Jaehee) in my other fandom (the one he was created for), and I’m very, very fond of my ship, so I’m transferring said boyfriend into the RA so they can meet and be together again LMAO. (I got so attached, help.)

Let me know if you need a reference for the boyfriend, too, in case the Wiki gets confusing.

Personality

— He’s kind. Calm and collected, but also playful.

He’s a really sweet and dorky child, really. Polite, tidy, hardworking, very kind.

— He’s very patient and polite most of the time, but his sense of justice is hair-triggered.

He takes after both his parents (his parents are a character from yet another fandom, but his mom is my own OC if you need a reference for her. She can be a single mom here.)

He will not stand for injustice and will do something about it if he deems it necessary (he always does). But he’s not reckless, and he can be very patient to enact said justice.

— He has very good instincts.

Later he learns it’s in great part thanks to Observation Haki, which he will go on to hone to the point of having Future Sight after he joins the Revolutionaries.

— Loves:

Martial arts.

Playing the dizi.

His mother’s pudding (he loves all puddings, but his favorites will always be his mom’s soy bean pudding and her eight-treasure rice pudding).

Black, red, and purple colors.

— Hates:

Timeline and History:

1-14

Childhood and part of his teenage years

— Zihao spent his childhood studying and learning martial arts. He’s very good with weapons, especially with knives or a staff, but his forte is hand-to-hand combat.

Joins the Happo Navy

— He joined the Happo Navy when he was 15 after a low-ranking member from the Niho Navy started pestering his mom.

— Heiran (his mom) is perfectly capable of taking care of herself, but they both understand politics and power dynamics.

She didn’t want to risk the harasser being well-connected within the Niho Navy if she defended herself properly (kicked his ass), so all she did was avoid the pirate as much as possible and defend herself verbally.

— Zihao, seeing this, talks about it with his mom and tells her he would like to move a step above in his martial training and join the Happo Navy.

He has long since outgrown his martial arts mentor, and joining a pirate crew would give him more experience against different fighting styles.

His mom tells him he’s a good son, but he’s being silly; why would a 15 year old become a pirate? (Basically, politely calling him crazy lmao).

Zihao tells her that he understands her worries but that they both know the Happo Navy wouldn’t really take him away right away: they’re a big crew, after all, it’s not like they’re desperate for manpower even if they do appreciate every member they get.

And so Zihao becomes a cabin boy!

— Given how they’re opposite crews, once Zihao joins he’s under the protection of the Happo Navy and so is his mom, effectively making the harasser back off lest he anger a higher up.

The Happo and the Niho are not enemies, but they are different crews, so neither wants to encroach on the other’s territory so openly lest they risk a perfectly avoidable clash.

— His kind nature catches Boo’s eye when Zihao helps his crewmates with sparring and cabin boy duties.

His martial arts prowess doesn’t go unnoticed!

Boo takes him under his wing and teaches him what he can.

He and Boo become sparring buddies and, eventually, best friends.

15-17

— Zihao works his way up until he becomes one of the best combatants on the crew and catches Sai’s and Don Chinjao’s attention.

— Having taught Zihao all he can, Boo takes the opportunity to pass him onto Sai when his brother shows professional interest in Zihao.

— “Give the kid a chance!”

— Sai gives the kid a chance. Doesn’t regret it.

Venturing the Blue

— This time under a different command, Zihao has worked his way up all over again, to the point that Sai takes him along whenever he leaves the country.

Half of any treasure Zihao amasses over his time as an active crewmember on a pirate ship goes to his mom.

They’re not pressed for money, and Heiran has her own job as well, so any extra goes into their savings basically.

Into the New World

— He ventures into the New World for the first time under Sai’s command.

— This is when they start looking into Doflamingo, despite having been aware of him for years.

The trips are disguised as unrelated business deals with islands close to Dressrosa: they are real business trips that benefit the Happo Navy, it just so happens that they were fabricated around the need to investigate the Donquixote Family.

— They even visit Dressrosa itself once, to test the waters while Doflamingo is away for Marineford.

Not all of them, but a small group of their most inconspicuous members—one of which happens to be Zihao—disembarks under the pretense of restocking for items the previous island conveniently didn’t have.

It’s there that Zihao learns about the D Brothers, just like everyone else: through the transmission and the papers. (Doffy told his crew to broadcast it.)

He empathizes with Luffy and it’s saddens him to find out Ace died. He thinks about his mom and the Happo Navy, and how he would also go to war for any of them, especially his mom and Boo.

This is the first time he hears about the Revolutionary Army as well, when Dragon is revealed to be Luffy’s dad. He does some digging about the Army and takes an interest in them after that.

Dressrosian Revolution

— He joins the Dressrosian expedition.

Colosseum

— He participates in the colosseum, and later on helps and protects civilians when pandemonium breaks out.

This is also when he makes first contact with the Revolutionary Army.

Having finished warming up, he’s exploring while waiting for his turn when he runs into the SaboLu reunion, although a little further afar from even Bartolomeo. He’s an empath through and through so he’s happy for Luffy to apparently get a brother back from the dead (‘so that poor boy watched both of his older brothers die?’) and he also feels homesick because he’s a mama’s boy.

Pandemonium

— Later, when Doflamingo wrecks havoc, he stays on ground defending the small people.

He initially got separated from his crew and then forgot about the Chinjao Family when Sugar turned them into puppets, but he still has his ideals intact and knew to protect the innocent despite having forgotten his mission.

When Sugar gets knocked out and the memories come back, Zihao is horrorized, but there’s no time to worry about it with everything going on. (He will eventually have a breakdown over how easily it was for someone else to manipulate his memories, and he will internalize some kind of lesson there.)

— Eventually (when the cage is growing smaller) he runs into Koala and Hack, and he joins forces with them to defend others.

This is the first time he introduces himself to strangers with other than ‘Dexian’: he uses his actual name when Koala asks for it.

Aftermath

— After everything is done, Koala tries to recruit him.

It’s tempting, very tempting, but he politely denies on the grounds that he’s loyal to the Happo Army.

She still gives him a reference, and a place where he can find someone (who knows someone-who knows someone-who knows someone–) who can get him into contact with the Revolutionaries if he ever changes his mind. He gratefully takes it.

Zihao the Revolutionary

— The seed of justice had been planted long before this expedition, though, and after discussing it with Boo and his mother, who are very supportive if a little saddened to see it happen, he decides to go for it.

They know Zihao’s character is literally made for the Revolutionary Army, but they’re still going to miss him terribly.

— The Happo Army is sad to see him go, but happy for him.

Only the Chinjao Family knows what’s truly going on, and they approve of it when he tells them about Luffy’s brother being a part of it (neither Luffy or Sabo were keeping their connection a particular secret, with the way Sabo was openly speaking about it, and the Chinjao Family pleaded their loyalty to Luffy anyway, so they won’t be spreading it out either)

They promise to take care of his mom. 💜

Everyone else thinks he met a secret someone and is settling down (and in a way, they’re right).

— And thus, Zihao becomes the Revolutionary Army’s contact for the Happo Army and the Straw Hat Grand Fleet by proxy.

He becomes a Revolutionary a little after the Lulusia massacre, so: after the Reverie.
