CONT Part 2: It’s perfectly possible for society at large to objectify women, and then for individuals who already have a proclivity for violence to be further affected by that mindset, and then commit acts of violence as an exaggeration of that belief. Not to use the clichéd Nazi comparison, but most people in Germany already disliked Jews in the 30’s and 40’s. It was the Nazi Party that took that hatred to the extreme we see in the Holocaust, but the Antisemitism was already there.
Part 1: So you make this claim sometimes that I find interesting. It’s that, because the public at large reacts with horror to crimes committed against women, it means that society at large does not agree with his views, and therefore could not be the originating factor for said views. That’s reasonable enough, but I disagree. People don’t need to applaud a rapist in order for there to be significant (but not TOTAL) overlap between the views he holds and the views his society holds.
