Being able to hear well enough to tell that there’s music playing, but not quite well enough to be able to answer “yes” when your nephew asks you if you can hear it (he tends to keep his music fairly quiet when he’s playing geometry dash, especially if he’s working on making a level)

Not hearing that someone is talking to you until the second or third sentence, and having to figure out what they’re talking about based on context clues. Bonus points if you ask for clarification, and they answer the wrong question. :P

When people say random comments that don’t serve much purpose other than to fill space.

Like. I don’t hear well enough to want to expend energy on this, but the fact that you said something makes me think it was something I actually needed to hear, and then by the time you’ve repeated it a couple times, I realize that all you were saying was that the wind was in your face, or that the cat was being particularly demanding, or muttering to yourself about a text someone sent you, and there’s that piece of listening energy, wasted.

When you turn your headphones up to a volume that’s comfortable for you and your phone complains that they’re too loud.

Also, headphones with volume limitations in the first place.

I understand that frequent too-loud headphone usage can cause hearing loss, but I was hard of hearing before I ever started using headphones, and I need it that loud to be able to hear it well enough to process the sound properly.

Imagine if your headphones started giving you volume warnings at like 50% volume and some headsets capped out at like 70%—now try to use those headphones to get your music up to a listenable level! :P I don’t necessarily want it at a level that’s going to blast my ears out but I do want to get a fullness of sound
