Re: haircuts: you also have the Nuclear Option of giving yourself a really terrible short haircut, then going to the hairdresser and asking them to fix it. This functionally forces them to cut it short/the right way -- can't leave it too long if there's no hair to leave! Plus, then you can take a picture of it and use that as a reference for all future short haircuts. Like, this method is maybe not for everyone, but drastic times call for drastic measures, lol.
