Another Harpy design for my Greek AU “Rodimus the Great”
Starscream!!! I’m having that all the flyers in the au are going to be harpys, unless there are other more suitable monsters that fit the role. @overlordraax actually gave me the idea to make him into a little Magpie, which fits, since this little gremlin needs aaaaaalll the glitter.
So I'm re-reading HARPY AU, as I do, and I'm hoping you'll indulge me again with more harpy goodness! I'd love a scene or two of life at the university after Shockwave arrives.
Green-Eyed Observer
Perceptor wasn’t jealous, per se, but it did annoy him a bit that he was no longer the sole harpy in residence at Kaon’s University. Not only that, he was no longer the sole harpy with a scientific leaning.
Shockwave was a great friend. Truly. But the novelty of Perceptor had long since worn off in favor of the new arrival, who was larger than Perceptor and Drift both. Who was brighter and colorful and scarred and full of stories.
The students of the new semester in the Avian Studies curriculum were starry-eyed over him. Those in the Science Department all but tripped over themselves to ask his opinion and prod him for answers that either Perceptor had been cagey about, or didn’t know.
Perceptor was no longer the favored harpy celebrity, and he was not jealous.
“You are absolutely green with envy,” Drift told him as Perceptor stood at the back of the classroom, watching Shockwave give his third lecture of the semester.
There were a dozen human students watching him, rapt and fascinated, and not a one of them had turned to eye Perceptor and Drift. Even Ms. Jessica had fallen for Shockwave’s charisma.
“I am not,” Perceptor said. It couldn’t be helped. Shockwave was simply more engaging than Perceptor himself.
“You’re not their favorite anymore, and you are jealous,” Drift said. He leaned in close, tangling their fingers together, his head resting on Perceptor’s shoulder. “If it helps, you’re still my favorite.”
Perceptor sighed as Shockwave launched into a discussion of the potential evolutionary pathways of the harpy species, lone arm making grand gestures. The local engineering club had been salivating over the prospect of trying to make Shockwave a prosthetic wing, and he’d graciously allowed them to take his measurements.
“It’s better that there’s more of us, isn’t it?” Drift asked, still careful to keep his tone a low murmur so as not to disturb the lecture.
He was only here for Perceptor’s sake. Truthfully, these things bored him to tears, but there wasn’t much for Drift to do on campus. His best experience was in weaponry, and it was not an approved topic for study.
Yet.
“It is,” Perceptor said. “I’m grateful for Shockwave’s presence, as much as I am glad he could come here and find a place to call home.”
“But…?”
Perceptor unfolded his arms and shook his head. “But nothing. Every new voice here is a greater tie that will bind us to the humans and increase our protection.”
Also, Shockwave was a novelty because he was a fresh face and came with a new perspective. That newness would wear off with time, and the humans would find Perceptor’s experience and information valuable once more.
He simply had to be patient.
“Sure thing, cupcake,” Drift said, sounding distinctly amused. “Want to go fly with me instead of this?”
Perceptor chuckled softly. “Are you bored?”
“Terribly,” Drift drawled as on the other end of the room, Shockwave finished with a lecture and asked if anyone in the audience had any questions.
Every single human raised a hand.
“Let’s go,” Perceptor said.
Shockwave had this well in hand. He didn’t need Perceptor looking over him at all.
“Not jealous at all,” Drift muttered beneath his breath, but there was amusement in his voice as he took Perceptor’s hand and towed him out.
Drift was a much better audience right now anyway.

How about harpy drift and ratchet grooming their human s/o
It’s a sign of affection, you tell yourself.
They’re doing this out of their love for you, you tell yourself.
You should be honored that they care deeply enough for you that they would put you in this position, you repeat in your mind, over and over like a mantra, wincing as Ratchet continues tugging hair from your sensitive scalp.
“It’s embarrassing you would ever even let your hair get in this condition,” he huffs, tugging hard enough to tear a couple more strands of hair from your head. “What would you do without us to take care of you?”
“Dunno,” you wince as talons and beak continue to wreak havoc on your scalp. “But I’d probably have a fuller head of hair.”
“Don’t mind him,” Drift sighs as he settles into your lap. He immediately grips your hands in his talons, urging you to run your fingers along the plumage of his head nod back and chest. “Ratchet isn’t happy unless he’s fussing over someone.”
Ratchet makes a grumbling sound that you and Drift interpret as stubborn affection before he reaches over to pluck a feather directly from Drift’s scalp.
I had fun imagine harpyformers or birdformers I do not know ... but I loved it so I'm pretty happy
