“I first wore sideburns as a very young man in the 1950s, and, I shall not lie, I was, like many others my age, awkwardly attempting to emulate Elvis Presley and Marlon Brando, who were sporting them at the time. I took them off during the 60s when I first entered the workforce, as they had become associated with hippies by then, and thus not exactly something that management looked kindly upon when hiring. Rather ironic, isn’t it, that something associated with the Victorians and Old World military would become symbols of young rebels, no? But by the 70s, they were more acceptable, and I was able to grow them out again.
If I'd ever wanted to change my hair, I would. I lost the ponytail for a few years, for instance. I think my head hair would never return if I shaved it, but the sideburns would back stronger than ever."
