I don’t even know what the Harris building is, but every time I drive by it I feel like it is somehow important. . #grandrapidsmichigan #grandrapids #harrisbuilding #downtowngr (at The Harris Building)
We love your feedback!
Life Member of the #harrisfriends, John Stokes, came on one of our Harris tours recently ... Not only did he make a donation to the Friends as a thank you, he also sent us these fantastic comments:
"Thank you to one of your volunteers, Lawrence, who took me on the 'Architectural Gem' guided tour of the Harris last Thursday. I really enjoyed it and learned a lot - although I've been a visitor to the Harris for 40+ years, there's a lot of history to the place which I never knew.
Lawrence was perfect as a tour guide - very knowledgeable and passionate about the Harris building and its contents. We had a brief chat about some of the paintings afterwards, and when I asked if I could give him some payment or a tip he declined, and just asked if I would let you know some feedback. So here you go! And I made a donation in one of your collecting boxes in lieu of a tip.
If you get to read this Lawrence - thanks again for the tour.
I live in London but visit Preston frequently and usually pop in to see the latest exhibitions etc; next time, I'll be even more clued up.
Best wishes,
John Stokes

Thanks, John. It's comments like this that make it all worthwhile!
Here's a poem by #harrisfriend Irene Flack
Our next Harris 'An Architectural Gem' tour is on 17th July. This poem might inspire you!
The Pillar
The pillar stands, steadfast
Bearing its share
Of the burden above it
Strong, carved with care
Beautiful stone, it needs
Every brother
To stand alongside it
Supporting each other
And though we may often feel
Lonely and weak
We all play our role
The mighty and meek
To support, bear and uphold
Playing our parts
Holding and strengthening
Those in our hearts
