HARSHLYCRITICAL PLAYS THE LAST OF US: SENTENCE STARTERS 🍄
“Well I’m ashamed that’s gonna be immortalised on the internet forever.”
“Guess you musta threw it up when I was beating the shit out of you.”
“Shotgun sooooong!”
“I would totally try and loot this house, so that’s what we’re gonna do.”
“Watch out for the freaking cardboard box of DEATH.”
“What was that?! You guys are so loud!”
““[Name], don’t make any sound”, we’re gonna make a shit-ton of sound, though.”
“It’s okay, I’ll beat the shit outta this guy.”
“Yeah, I shot you in the head. Somehow you lived through that. Not sure how.”
“I see ya over there being stupid.”
“Don’t downplay how awesome that was.”
“Don’t tell me about the fucking bridge, tell me the rest of the joke!”
“I was asking for it, though. I really was asking for it.”
“Hey, guess what? All your friends are dead! How’s it feel?”
“How many more complaints can I stuff in there? My toe hurts. My ankle’s not feeling great.”
“I’ll just be honest, it’s because I was hungover.”
“I didn’t realise it was going to take so long to get through this gauntlet of fuckheads over here.”
“I dare you, motherfucker.”
“That’s right, “woah!” I just bashed your head in!”
“Yeah I do have a gun, you’re right.”
“Men first, children later.”
“I’m not exactly of the soundest mind.”
“I mean, you don’t HAVE to, I could just run in there guns blazing. You know what, fuck it.” [Fires gun]
“No no no no no, that’s my upgraded one! I want it!”
“Two ways out of this, huh? I just found a third.”
“Fuck [name]! Right after I gave him the best friend song, too.”
“Go [name]! Make him feel bad about himself! Crush his dreams!!”
“If I just keep saying it, eventually I’ll be right.”
“Sorry, that wasn’t really “hey-oh!!” worthy.”
“How convenient that you happened to record that precise moment.”
“How would you like to be set on fire?”
“That’s kinda mean. Then again…”
“Come here so I can strangle ya. It’ll be funny. We’ll laugh about it later.”
“Did he say “I’d fuck that”?”
“Come here, stupid, you’re supposed to die.”
“You’re a rockstar, you really are.”
“We’re just acting out of mutual desperation at the moment.”
“And if he tries anything, you shoot him in the head. Right between the eyes.”
“You guys came in there runnin’ and gunnin’, so I don’t wanna hear it.”
“Man, it’s the same threat every time. You’ll make me real sorry, I get it.”
“I don’t wanna hear it. I don’t wanna hear it.”
“You suck—you are terrible at your job.”

John Wolfe/HarshlyCritical - Mental Health Issues, PTSD, Suicide
Note: I wrote some of this from memory(about the livestream), but The Crow’s Eye video I just watched and transcribed, so that’s 100% accurate. John Wolfe/HarshlyCritical’s video “The Crow’s Eye [Part 1] - NEW PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR”(March 24, 2017) contains PTSD mocking at 17:00 timestamp, by an in-game character[technically since the game is set in the 1940s, this isn’t unexpected of the game HOWEVER], instead of rejecting the dialogue as an outdated mindset or even staying silent, John responds to it as funny and relatable. He laughs along with the character’s 1st line: "Post-traumatic stress… Really? (chuckle)“
The 2nd line: “Some people make up a load of bullshit to stop working.” to which John says: “I know, man. I know.”
3rd line: “Seriously, why am I always the one to deal with lo*nies?”
4th line: “A mentally disturbed guy who becomes a private detective and who doesn’t like his job, that’s all I needed.”
5th line: "I’m running out of patience, and this has just begun.“
As the in-game tape recorder ends, John sighs loudly and says exasperatedly "Oh my GOD. He’s just mad because his last name is Kansas. He probably gets tons of jokes. He was bullied in school, poor guy. Sorta. …I don’t really feel sorry for him after that RANT.”
John then switches the topic back to in-game items. Context is that the character is a private detective who takes “a lot” of meds and “overdoses”(I didn’t get this part, overdose is often used to mean an event of dangerous injury/fatality, not just taking more than prescribed… so probably the game should’ve used more clarification) according to his wife’s letter. John knowing this, I really don’t understand why he laughed along at some guy mocking a medicated(meaning receiving treatment, so they’ve been given ~Official Confirmation~ and aren’t “"faking”“ it) person. In the game’s 2nd part around 18:00, a note by another character claims the patients don’t have post-traumatic stress but that one patient’s brain tingling is his "mental and motor skills” deteriorating and “his apathy is increasing.” “is caused by the Philadelphia experiment” suddenly including that for whatever reason. In the 1st part, the game featured sketches of a human with an abnormal cyclops/third eye(I forget) and another with wings and later another character mentioned an eagle “donor.” At around 20:45, John reads another note about Hurley MacCanann and says “Ah, Hurley, he’s the one with PTSD.”
So there’s the agreement/laughter toward PTSD mocking, then his diminishing of the Kansas character as annoying soon after, and yet then he immediately accepts another character as having PTSD no questions asked. With all the conflicting information, I don’t know what to think. John plays a lot of games that stigmatize mental illness, but usually he doesn’t seem to play into the “oooh they’re ~crazy~ so that means murderer!!” etc.
He’s also run at least one charity livestream for destigmatizing mental health specifically in context of videogames, playing Asylum Jam games which were required to not use mental illness horror tropes. In fact, one of the games he played actually featured suicide, which seemed to shock and embarrass him on stream, since he didn’t know beforehand. At the end of the game he said he would hold his comments but he did not like/approve of the game, and to not discuss it in chat. [I think the title was “Choices.” It featured a wrong number caller about to commit suicide, and the player has to talk them down or if you fail, they die. Very bad taste, and awful for Asylum Jam.] I guess I wrote this out to collect my thoughts, because I really enjoy John for mostly keeping oppressive jokes and language out of his channel. I hadn’t watched this series before today, so that’s why I’m submitting this months after it was uploaded. I tried to be pretty thorough, though again I didn’t check all the livestream stuff word-for-word. I don’t really *want* more content about John on this blog, but I hope this can sum up some of his reactions/responses to various mental health issues.
