Outline - Harvard Boy
The follow-up info I promised to Harvard Boy.
Jason ran away at 15 but didn’t run into Bruce in Lebanon. Instead, he met Shiva first and on his own and she cops to being his mom. They don’t have the best relationship but they do slowly build one and she trains him up. He has some limited foresight abilities.
After saving the world from the Joker’s plans, Bruce does try to find Jason but he can’t. For some reason, Jason’s not showing up on any of his searches or anything. It’s like he’s just gone.
Jason, for his part, isn’t taking any great pains to hide himself from Bruce. Even legally changes his name to hyphenate with his mom’s. The fact that Bruce never gets in contact, he thinks, is telling and writes the man off completely. (It hurts. A lot.)
Jason gets some training from his mom but she’s pretty hands-off otherwise. Kicking the fledgling out of the nest type of a mother. She’d rather send him off for training. It’s not like Jason’s never fended for himself, either, so he shrugs. Whatever. She calls in a few favors, has him trained by a few other people. Jason essentially apprentices as a mercenary and starts to build his own reputation and name but he never takes anything big.
He doesn’t want that life, really.
He wants to go to school.
So he does.
Cambridge for college. Oxford for uni. He gets his Masters at Stanford and he’s working on his PhD at Harvard. For the most part his graduate assistantships take care of it, but he runs a few missions here and there for extra money and to keep his skills sharp. (Not to mention, he really likes not having to live on ramen.)
He’s pretty fucking pissed when he wakes up locked in a dockside warehouse in Gotham with four strangers. He had a god damn class to teach at 8 am and his advisor’s gonna be pissed if he doesn’t show up without warning. He’s got some leeway. He never misses a class unless he’s practically dead on his feet. Still, it’s unprofessional.
Whoever grabbed him had also better not have hurt his fucking dog. Lily was too sweet to do more than bark at anyone. If she had so much as a scratch, someone was gonna die tonight.
When the death traps start rolling... he starts to have a few suspicions as to what’s waiting at the end of the gauntlet. He just doesn’t understand why he’s here at all. It’s been ten yearssince he’s set foot in Gortham and there’s civilians stuck in here, too, but the Joker’s always been cruel. Sadistic asshole must have been watching too much Saw this time.
What he doesn’t know is that Batman’s running his own gauntlet and having to watch as Jason navigates the traps with the four civilians in tow.
Bruce has to watch as the son he thought was lost grumbles his way through things he shouldn’t have skills for, even as Robin. As Jason loses one of the civilians to their own recklessness. As one of them turns out to be a Joker plant.
Then, when they get to the end, the final confrontation.
