After 40 years in operation, Harvard Exit, a participating theatre in the Seattle International Film Festival, closed its doors in January of 2014.

Searching for Sugarman ...

I saw the New York Times review of this documentary about six weeks ago when the film started playing in New York.  I couldn't wait to see it.  The movie finally came to Seattle yesterday so Christine and I caught an afternoon showing at the Harvard Exit up on Seattle's Capital Hill. 

This is an amazing ... an almost unbelievable ... story.  Kind of like watching a documentary about a current-day Buddah or a contemporary Jesus.  

Well, maybe not quite like that ... but kind of.

We walked out of the theatre puzzled, thoughtful ... and optimistic.  I hope everyone sees this movie!

And it turns out that Sixto Rodriguez, the subject of this movie, is playing a concert in Seattle in a few weeks.  We picked up some tickets to his October 12  show, late last night.

Reason's I Love Capitol Hill

Harvard Exit: The lobby is exquisite. 

Vivace: They have learned how to make a latte where one can't decipher where the coffee ends and the steamed milk begins. And don't even get me started about the foam.

B & O: This place is special to me. Dessert at 1pm or 1am, you can't go wrong. 

Thomas Street Bistro: This is a tiny little place, where the owner, who's from Toulouse, knows the regulars, and the set up is a living room. Very romantic and quaint.

Cal Anderson Park: Go at dusk in the summer and walk in the fountain.

Finally saw my first movie at the Harvard Exit, a quirky and haunted movie house up on Capitol Hill in Seattle.  The film was Melancholia, and I totally recommend both it and the theater.
