The Glimmerbug Handmade Art Shop is Open!

Whew!

I can’t believe it. After all this time, I’ve finally gotten all my ducks in a row and opened up my handmade art shop, located at my home. It’s surreal. And fabulous. And so much fun! I’m beyond thrilled with how today went with all the visitors who came to check out my art while on their tour of the Bolton and Harvard Open Studios.

Since buying this house about 6 months ago, my family has had a vision of turning the front enclosed porch into a little art shop with all of my handmade pieces on display. Our goal was to set everything up when we first moved in to get it up and running as quickly as possible, but with my mom’s health and being her care givers, we had to put that idea on hold so we could focus on her and her well being.

Sadly, now that she’s gone, we now have a little more time to devote to putting into our shop idea. So here we are, diving headlong into this little venture. It’s nothing fancy, nothing over the top. Just an adorable little room filled with sunlight and jazz tunes and colorful mixed media art!

Today was an absolute blessing! I never thought I’d have as many visitors as I did. The Bolton Harvard Open Studios event has been in the planning for several months now, and being that this was my first year, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. In the past, I’ve always done fairly large craft shows and events, with hours upon hours of tent setup and merchandising all of my art with a secret fear of each event having some sort of rain or crummy weather that would ruin my art. Talk about stressful. But now, I’ve got such a cute little setup and I don’t have to tear down, worry about rain or being unsure if the money that I put into the cost of the show was going to be made back. Now, my art is just up there on the walls of the shop for all who visit to look at and enjoy (which I hope they did!)

So thank you to all of the wonderful folks who came out today to support my art and visit the first day of my shop being open. It was an exciting day for all of us (my kids as well because they’ve been working hard helping us set up too!)

Another part of the Harvard Museum of Natural History is their Earth and Planetary Sciences Gallery. It consists of hundreds upon hundreds of different rocks and minerals from all over the world. Holiday Studio Shop Tour

Things are really starting to look holiday-ish in my studio/shop now that the tree is brimming with handmade ornaments and all the lovely holiday decor is out for display! I just love decorating for Christmas… and if you know me, you know how many Christmas trees I have!

Ornaments are one of my favorite things to make to decorate my trees, and the tree in the shop is bursting with all sorts of handmade goodness!

Some other favorites of recent shop visitors are the Christmas Baking Muffin Tins that all feature unique Christmas inspired decorations. Eye catching, unique and super fun to look at!

Another popular item this coming holiday season is the miniature boxes that you’ll see on display. These little cute boxes are small enough to be called “trinkets” and lovely enough to put onto your windows for display.

Handmade Valentine Cards Workshop

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we’ve got cards to make! Who wants a dime-a-dozen store bought card when you can make a beautiful mixed media card that is unique and shares your creativity with the ones you love?

In this workshop, we’ll enjoy creating with watercolors, pens, stamps, doodles and pens to make elaborate and simply stunning Valentine’s to share with our loved ones.

If you’re anything like me, you want to make sure your Covid vaccination card is safe in your purse or bag.

In this fun and easy class, you’ll enjoy learning to create your very own fashionable Covid case. We’ll plan on making at least 3 cases so you can gift or share with your friends and family.

Registration includes all supplies needed for this class. All you need to do is show up!

An Evening of Christmas-ing in My Art Shop

Today was the day I got all the fun ornaments out and set up in my art shop for display. When I finished up, it was night time and the shop was darker than it is during the day. But the photo came out really pretty in the evening, with lovely light from the shimmering tree!

I’ll be doing a little “Holiday Shop Tour” as soon as I can (Thanksgiving week is so busy with parent teacher conferences, a vet appointment for Moofy, and lots of pre-cooking/baking of food for our first Thanksgiving here at home… so I’ll squeeze in a little tour when I get a free sec!

In the meantime, just so you know, the shop will be open daily starting this week (one group/2 people max at a time) with masks and social distancing in place. I’ve also got Exclusive Shopping Appointments that you can make on my Facebook page (click here to schedule) so that you can shop safely and without any crowds at all.

If you’re in the market for handmade, definitely give my shop a try. Most items are also available online here but not everything.

Leaf Peeping in Small Town New England

Living in a teeny tiny town in Massachusetts is probably my most favorite thing. We have one blinking light, a General Store and a lot of space between neighbors. My husband and I both think we found paradise!

I was walking around the downtown with 2 of my 3 littles (biggest little was at a socially distant field hockey drill camp) and we were admiring the loveliness of the changing tree colors. So I wanted to share our views:

So far 2020 has been a train wreck. But the leaf peeping here in Harvard has been spectacular and, to me, has been a wonderful positive offering from nature to make up for all the horror that has been lashed up on us this year! I’ll take it!
