My favorite diner has been closed for renovations for over two weeks now, so I broke down and settled for a different diner this morning, and lemme tell ya, the experience was beyond disappointing. The hashbrowns were soggy and tasted predominantly of vegetable oil, the eggs were the exact thickness and texture of a fruit rollup folded over itself, and the "biscuit" was inedibly dry and looked like they took a loaf of mountain bread from a grocery store bakery, cut it into quarters, and flattened the two cut edges so it would look like one bun by itself. I usually order French toast, but I knew the slices at this place could never compare to those sold at my favorite diner, so I made the regretable choice to order chicken fried steak instead. Do not do what I have done. I concede that what they served me was in fact beef, but you could not torture me into saying it was steak. Does a slice of roast beef count as steak? What about a McDonalds hamburger patty? What I got was a limp flavorless puck the exact size and shape of a drink coaster, covered in a wet layer of "breading" that sloughed off like Jeff Goldblum's skin in The Fly. Breakfast was not an enjoyable experience this morning, and it put a damper on the rest of my day.

If my favorite diner doesn't reopen next week, I am going to cry. If it goes out of business, I am going to self-immolate in the parking lot.

If you do not hear from me next Thursday, assume the worst.

Hash House, San Diego

For my Memorial Day, I traveled all the way to San Diego, California. The primary purpose was to witness my cousin get married but who goes anywhere without trying the food, not KB ! Through recommendations I was told that SD has the best of Mexican cuisine but I also learned that when it comes to brunching SD does not play at all. New York has major competition in this category.

First day, my Aunts & I went to Hash House. Located in the heart of SD, Hash House is very popular with the locals. We waited for an hour, which is normal wait time for brunch in SD. Side bar: that is something I can not get used to.  This was one of the best brunches I’ve ever eaten in my life. The plate portions & presentations are amazing but make sure to share !

Hash House A Go Go in Las Vegas, Nevada

If ever in Las Vegas you MUST go to Hash House A Go Go and order the Sage Fried Chicken & Waffles, basically a religious experience. I never fancied myself as a chicken & waffles kinda girl but this definitely changed my opinion. 😋

Adventures in San Diego

As an early birthday present, I recently visited San Diego with friends. Below are a few snaps from our trip, and some yummy treats we ate!

Beautiful Hotel Del Coronado. This was the best beach we visited, and the interior of the hotel was stunning!

On to some food we ate! Saturday, we had breakfast at Hash House! The portions were so huge, and while we’d heard this, I don’t think we understood until we saw food coming out of the kitchen. I have never seen so much food as one entree! We couldn’t finish one order between the two of us! 

The pancakes were the size of a pizza! Those are not regular plates. 

Our meal was an egg scramble, with roasted chicken, spinach, tomato pesto, and goat cheese. There was a homed biscuit we ate with strawberry maple jelly and crispy potatoes. I don’t think we ate for nearly 8 hours after this!

We worked off some of this breakfast by kayaking in La Jolla!

On the trip, our last stop was Balboa park. What a treat and surprise this was! We weren’t sure what to do for a few hours, and decided to just walk around. There were beautiful gardens, stunning trees, museums, and even an orchid show!

We ate so much great food, but I forgot to take photos of most. San Diego, what a treat you were! I already miss your weather!
