I know a lot of people are harping on Metaphor ReFantazio for looking so similar to Shin Megami Tensei and Persona. But honestly, I feel like everything about the game is more than different enough to be exciting. Sure, it looks like it has the persona calendar and social sim systems, but it being in a high fantasy setting also makes it a big change of pace compared to highschool. The “Archetypes” themselves also look really neat. Instead of being mythical creatures and figures, they’re JRPG class archetypes. Makes this seem like a mix of Persona and Final Fantasy 5. And from some analysis of the trailer, the press turn system seems to be forgone for something new. Hell, even some of the female characters we’ve seen, while still conventionally attractive, have more out there and creative designs then in past games (Long ass 90’s elf ears are back, baby!) I’m super hyped to learn more.

Let’s just hope Hashino decided he didn’t need to tell anymore “jokes” about gay people this time around.
