The Potential of a Partnership
its been like... Almost a month since I've been here.
Essentially, uh. I got bit by my flesh. Co-worker. Friend. I hope he's my friend still. A while ago
And it got infected and my arm is getting eaten so. Yeah. Also a whole bunch of other shit happened whilst I was out.
I'm in the hospital now. I'm just hoping they can fix it so I can. Go home.

oh hello!
hey what are the Hands of Clay gang up to these days? All good? Just thinking about them.
An excellent question! It’s 8 year after the events in Hands of Clay (at least, 7 years, 11 months and 3 weeks before the first chapter) and that means Clint and Natasha are 13… and the newest additions to the household are about 9 months old!
(In case you haven’t ready it already, I talked about this in the Hands of Clay outtake, but tl;dr: Bucky and Steve adopted Want and Pietro Maximoff when they were six months old or so, when Natasha was 12 and Clint was 13.)
(Hands of Clay is, at heart, a story about found/finding family and also of adoption, so that’s part of the process here.
Here are the snippets on the twins joining the family:
The twins join the Barnes-Rogers family
And more details
And then later on, there’s the one where Steve becomes a stay-at-home dad for the twins
And then later, Steve becomes a hockey dad
Clint is doing great – he’s gunning for the 2024 USA Olympic Archery team, and he’s doing great at the junior archery competitions he’s allowed to go to (Steve decided that he wasn’t going to have Clint travelling too far for competitions until he was sixteen at least).
Natasha dropped ballet at age 10 for Reasons and flung herself fully into parkour and martial arts – her newest dream is to become a stunt actor when she graduates high school (where the pay is low but the work is hard) and Bucky is trying not to panic about that. She’s just a kid, right? But then, Bucky’s kids have never been ones to walk back from a challenge.
They’re like their dads, that way.
Bucky’s doing... okay. He’s worried about Clint and Natasha, trying to keep the twins healthy and entertained, be a good husband to Steve (that one is working out okay). Work is fine super busy and even with him and Maria having brought on Skye as a junior partner in 2015, they all have so much to do. He blames that as the reason that he has trouble sleeping, some times, and why he just aches some days. He has gone to therapy on and off, over the years, but there’s still some stuff he hasn’t worked through re his PTSD and all the shit with his family (he’s still NC with his sister) and well, he's getting older and physically he’s having a few problems (he refuses to admit that he’s in pain some of the time, because it’s nothing he can’t handle, and he doesn’t want Steve to think he’s weak, which, unexplored internalized toxic masculinity.
Maybe that’s something that can get worked out when Natasha, at 14, has a semi-meltdown about being adopted and not knowing anything about her birth parents, when even the twins know more about their mother, and Bucky and Steve have to Examine Their Own Parenting and all kinds of stuff comes out. Maybe there’s a recommitment to therapy (for everyone, yes everyone) and maybe Bucky and Steve start talking in a way they haven’t had time for since before the twins entered their lives, and maybe, just maybe, they’ll keep making it through things together.
So yeah, there are some hiccups, but they all love each other, and they’re going to keep trying their best.
Thanks for the ask, anon!
