someone has been spray painting rocks on the trail near my house, which sucks for a lot of reasons, but one of the smaller ways it sucks is that I saw a non-spray painted rock along the path that looked in prime position to be the spray painters next target and it was so beautiful I had to lever it up out of the dirt so I could take it away and prevent it from getting spray painted. which will deteriorate the trail too, don’t get me wrong, but I couldn’t in good conscience let the spray painter get it. so now I’m lugging an 8 lb rock down the trail rip

I feel like continuing to read this book is an act of actual self harm, but unfortunately I’m doing it for a Thing, so I can’t DNF it.

It’s fanfiction. It’s bad fanfiction and the property is sufficiently ooc that she didn’t even need to file the numbers off to self publish it.

It has all my worst markers of bad fanfic around (mis)characterisation, historical carelessness, and inaccuracy, and unfortunately the novel it’s based on is deeply, deeply precious to me. It is too long. It has not been edited (though it has, at least, been proofread). The plot is sloppy, sentimental, and predictable. It does nothing interesting in relation either to the novel, the fandom, or wider literary discussion. It relays so much plot (and text!) from the original that it is deeply fucking boring.

Worst, I get borderline TERF vibes from it.

And it having to read it triggers all my stuff on who gets to speak with authority on what.
