We won!!! Congrats to all for our generations civil rights issue. It is downright embarrassing to be apart of state that had to get the federal government to step in and give us the right.
Shameful Georgia, damn shameful, and the rest of the grey states on this map that never actually voted for it themselves. I believe this is simply due to old people with old values spreading their shitty values to their kids like an inheritance. They stay in the same old town and do the same to their kids, without ever learning from anyone else outside their church/suburban bubble. Mainly Middle-America and the Bible-Belt South.
I forget that not everyone lives in a diverse urban city such as Atlanta where everyone eventually learns from each-other. Even though we get outnumbered and outvoted by the rest of the deep-south state. To these people living in these grey states. It is as if they are a third-world county where they are a few generations behind discovering Jean Claude Van Damme for the first time.
Thus, they still practice the same dogma left over from 80′s television and movies. Most likely because they still avoid anything at all to do with gays on television today that normally would be a way to get educated and updated on modern values and changing times despite their ignorance bubble. Not that gays on TV today are not a complete trope and still offensive. But at least it has brought a lot of other people over the finish line in terms of simple acceptance.
This is why I am dedicating this week to Homophobia in the 80′s. Although many forget just how homophobic the 80′s really were. I will be posting a gif a day to help people remember just how bad it really was in the mainstream media. Just as well to acknowledge that many still speak this way behind closed doors of the anonymous internet and gaming. Specifically the use of a hate filled slur. The F-word.
Much like the N-word or going blackface in the 40′s the F-word is a huge hateful slur. Pretty much illegal to use and rightfully so. But for some reason it was acceptable to use just 30 years ago and still so to those grey states that have not quite evolved with the rest of us.
