Probably the first almost fully rendered piece I have done for my OCs in a while, I am drained but happy with how it turned out. Don’t mind me as I sideswipe you with some angst, a big part of Hatomi’s past and just how Yumekui ruined her life, made her a widow and childless in a single night. On one of her hunts, she disguised herself as a festival troupe member and sought out her next victim at the villages restaurant stalls. Kaito was out that night getting some last minute vegetables for his family dinner he planned with Hatomi, and Yume took interest in the only man in the bar who didn’t take immediate interest. She loved a challenge and so approached him offering a good time. Kaito being the innocent man he is politely declined saying that while that sounds great, he had to get some groceries for his wife. His earnest smile at the mention of his wife irked her more, and him easily turning away to leave her there pissed her off more. She hated not getting her way, but even more being out right denied. It didn’t help there was a faint scent of a child on him when he left, her favorite kind of prey. Smiling that sinister smile, she decided to pay that man a visit. Nobody denies her and lives to tell about it
When she appeared to the family on the outskirts, it began raining and they didn't hear her coming. Attacking them, Kaito fought back and instructed Hatomi to grab Genji and run, buying them time to escape. Taking her bow and Genji, Hatomi made a break for it toward the village. He paid for it with his life, the demoness cut him up into pieces, but did not eat him yet as she was set on eating Genji first. Yumekui chased them through the rain and eventually caught up, Hatomi attempted to fight back despite her lack of vision but Yumekui was quick to pin her down and snatch Genji away. Hatomi pleaded and begged for the demon to leave him be and eat her instead, trying desperately to get free, but ceased as soon as Yumekui threatened to cut Genji up as well. Yumekui was prolonging this to make Genji more terrified, to which he was crying profusely, screaming out for his mother as he was held tightly by the demon. Hatomi called out to him in an attempt to calm him down, and Yume only cackled as she taunted her efforts.
“How pathetic! You think lying will make him feel all better? Less afraid of the monster that killed his father and has his mother at her mercy?”
Hatomi’s voice was haggard, trying to keep herself calm as she tried once more. “Please! You can have me instead, I won't fight back just please...don't hurt my baby!! I'll do anything Please!”
Yumekui went silent, her eyes glaring down at Hatomi’s desperation…before a wicked grin graced her features. “A Noble effort to prolong this morsels life.....but all in vain I'm afraid.”
Ignoring her pleas, proceeded to pierce the child's throat, and dropped his body to face his mother. Hatomi could only watch as he choked and died from blood loss and not being able to breath. His last word was a gurgled Mama before the life faded from his eyes. She couldn't even scream or weep from the shock, her mind broken as she was fixated on her now dead child lying in a pool of his own blood.
Hatomi barely registered when the demon approached, grabbing her face to turn and meet her gaze, reveling in the horror on the mother’s face as she ran her bloody claws through her hair. Yumekui laughed at her broken state, taunting her how she would eat Genji in front of her, and if she was feeling merciful, would put her out of her misery and eat her so she could join him. The woman could barely react, even when Yumekui started stroking her face, leaving two gashes on her cheek to see if she would react. Hatomi didn't despite the pain, only looking up the cold eyes of the demoness. Those eyes without remorse, that sinister laugh….stayed with her and her nightmares for years to come. She survived the encounter, and to this day never found the demon that took away her family.
