You go to Halloween horror nights for the mazes. You expect to be scared. However, la llorona, inside the Montrose maze scared the crap out of me. 10 out of 10 quality.

HEHEHEHEHHEHEH…
hi :>
How you doin
Sorry it took me a while to answer this, but as of right now... t i r e d .
Doing alright, but very tired from work.
To explain my lack of activity on Tumblr, basically I've been hanging out on Discord more often with really cool friends (hey @sneklover!!!), battling some mental issues including art block, and also in the process of making yet another project for this year's Halloween!
Unfortunately, the last attempt at making another Trunk or Treat project didn't work so I'm making up for it this year. This year's theme for my Trunk or Treat project is: Widows. 🕷️🕸️👵👴🏚️
Widows is not my idea - it's actually one of two brand new haunted houses/mazes located in Knott's Scary Farm in Buena Park, California. The story behind this maze is that you are entering a decrepit convalescent home where demonic spiders have erupted from the underground and are taking over the withering bodies of the residents. The fact that I'm making my project inspired by Widows is very ironic considering that I'm actually an arachnophobe, but hopefully doing this will somewhat cure my fear of spiders.
Down below is official concept art screenshots I took from YouTube (hidden for those with strong arachnophobia and/or are really sensitive to horror):
The Seeds (+ the Deputy) going into a Universal Studios Haunted house/Maze headcanon. 🎃👻👹💀😱
+ Bonus canons (1 of them is my 1 of my OCs)
IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR, AND HAUNTED HOUSES ARE HERE (well not really, fuck you covid-19 you're a piece of shit)
Jacob Seed
• Takes the lead but gets cut off by my OC
• Doesn't get scared (at all)
• 1000% un-scare-able
• Probably punches one of the employees for "startling" him (its an excuse for him to punch someone)
• Annoyed at how dark it is
• Sees people in cages (it's apart of the haunted house) and calls them weak, laughs at them
• Unamused (the whole time)
• Laughs at others getting scared
• Laughs at the Deputy for losing their balance and fall when they get scared.
• Hates the flashing strobe lights
• He actually likes the House of 1000 Corpses maze
John Seed
• Says he's not scared
• 5 seconds into entering the maze, he screams like a child.
• "That wasn't a scream, that was a shriek of manliness"
• Swears a lot
• Gets made fun of by Sharky and my OC
• "What?? No I'm not scared Dep-yoo-tee"
• Calls the employees (the ones scaring them) sinners as their scaring him and the others
• Has Faith walk in front of him
• Holds on to Deputy's arm
• Don't tell him about the McKamey Manor (the haunted house that actually tortures their guests and they have to sign a waiver that they won't sue)
Faith Seed
• Walks in front of John
• Not really scared
• But will scream if something jumps out unexpectedly
• Tries not to smack anyone
• Might hide behind my OC
• Might hide behind Jacob
• Holds the Deputy's arm the whole time
• Her John fight over who holds the Deputy
• She likes the Stranger Things and American Horror Story mazes
• Wants to go in again!!!!!
Joseph Seed
• Has to be forced to go in (by Sharky and my OC)
• Doesn't really get scared
• But when he does (ITS HILARIOUS!!!!!!)
• "Wow even the Father gets scared!!!!" - My OC
• Like John calls the employees sinners
• Doesn't get blinded by the flashing lights (those damn Aviators come in handy)
• Looks at every detail of the maze (John should've been doing that but he's too busy getting scared)
• He doesn't admit it but he likes the Ghostbusters maze
• Holds on to the Deputy when they get scared
• Usually he'll walk behind everyone else
BONUSES:
Deputy/Rook
• Screams but in a laughing kind of way
• Swears (A LOT)
• Yells "You little shit!!!" and "For fucks sake" every time
• Has to babysit John and Faith the whole time
• Basically being their guide throughout the whole maze
• Easily blinded by the flashing lights walks into walls a lot
• Laughs when Joseph gets scared
• Smacks OC for making fun of John
• Loses balance when scared brings John and Faith down with them when they fall.
Sharky Boshaw
• His idea to force Joseph to go into the maze
• Swears when he gets scared
• "Where's my flamethrower?!?!??"
• "Sharky no!!!!" - Deputy
• "Sharky yes!!!!!" - OC
• Might punch an employee (accidentally)
• He likes Stranger Things and Ghostbusters mazes
• Laughs at John getting scared
• Holds onto OC the whole time (because Dep has John and Faith on both arms)
• Often jokes to enlighten the mood, funny comments
• Might walk into walls or trip because of how dark it is
• Has OC be his guide in the darkness
Paige Winchester
• Helps Sharky to get Joseph to come into the maze.
• She takes the lead when it comes to entering the maze (Cutting off Jacob)
• Not scared at all (she hunts/kills monsters for a living for crying out loud!!!!!)
• "Ya'll are a bunch of wimps (except Jacob) I'm gonna show you all who the queen of horror is"
• She slips on fake blood and falls on her ass "Great start!!!!!"
• Babysits Sharky (she's his guide basically)
• Cracks jokes to enlighten the mood
• She loves the American Horror Story and Stranger Things mazes
• Her and Sharky make fun of John for getting scared
• the Deputy smacks her on the back of the head for John
• Goes into the maze again with Faith dragging Sharky in
This or That - Scares Edition
In the spirit of the month, what gets to you/scares you/gives you the chills most:
Horror books, movies, or games? Psychological thrillers, gory films, or jump scare movies? In lore, black dogs or black cats? Elaborate haunted houses or haunted mazes where you wander freely? Clowns, masked figures, or ghost girls (long black hair, bloody white dress, etc)? Chainsaw noises, chilling screeches, rattling chains, or other?
Is there a reason some haunted mazes are scary and some aren’t?
If you have in depth knowledge on the psychology of horror / haunted mazes / theatrical horror please feel free to go on a Ted talk. I know there’s science and study behind it but I don’t know where to start
Mainly talking about things like Hollywood horror nights and amusement parks. I am normally super scared but this year when I went it had startling moments but overall it wasn’t that intense. Are they watering it down so more people will enjoy it? Are we just so exhausted our bodies don’t have room to be scared? Is it too fast paced to be scary? Are we already anticipating the scares and thus they aren’t unexpected?
Nothing SCREAMS Christmas than watching YouTube videos of haunted halls decked out in festive decor!
There are plenty more of these haunted holiday events, too!
