one can not simply have a danny phantom au were danny does well in school. no the child must suffer academic failure if the story is to succeed. I think I've mentioned before that Danny had a harder time with school in the Haunted Ties story than compared to canon, but I didn't go into detail so I'll do it here. Between protecting the town, learning about ghost culture, not getting caught by his parents, hiding his secret, maintaining his friendship with sam and tucker, and of course sleeping, Danny didn't have any time for school. He got interrupted every time he tried to study, he was constantly skipping classes to deal with ghost problems, and when he was in class staying awake was basically impossible cause of how tired he was. plus, cause sam and tucker didn't know his secret, they didn't really understand why danny was doing so badly in school, and didn't really help him with it. I mean they would let him copy their notes, or offer to do homework together, and if there was a group project they basically did all the work and just let danny put his name on it. but that didn't really do much to help when danny was missing like every other class, never turning anything in, and failing all his tests cause he didn't understand the material. and of course missing so many classes meant that Danny was constantly in trouble. He had detention a lot, and would get even more cause of missing it due to ghostly shenanigans. but (cause I'm not heartless) anytime Mr Lancer was in charge of detention it would turning into a tutoring session for danny. cause my version of Mr Lance could see how hard danny was actually trying with his work. and while he didn't know why danny was struggling (he suspected it had something to do with danny's parents), he tried his best to help the kid out. Making him the only human adult Danny trusted.
