And there it was again, another plane gone into the air. Jess was rushing through the gates of the official California airport. It was cold, the goosebumps on her arm were growing on her arm by the minuet. It was still early in the morning, and the sun was still rising slowly. She knew it her flight was at 5am and it was currently 3:46am.
Sounds of gaits where being announced at the speed of light but she finally got to her gate. Jess settled down as she realised that someone was sitting next to her. he had black shaggy hair and a beanie thrown over his head tiled by the slightest bit.
He had freckles scattered across his face and a slight heart-shaped mole near his chin. She didn’t realise she was staring for so long until he let out an awkward cough. She turned around quickly but he had stopped her mid-way.
“Hey...” he said quietly only enough for Jess to hear. “hi” she waved. They sat there as the air around them closed in on them in a flash. “Where are you heading too? if that’s not to personal.” She smiled.
“Uhm, I mean were both at the same gate so...” he scratched the back of head. Classic nervous move. “Oh yeah! Sorry, that was really stupid.” Jess bit her lip. “I never got your name though.” She wanted the conversation to further, like an argument between her parents. “Alex… yeah!” If he wasn’t that intrigued in conversation, now he was.
“Mine is Jessica, but you can call me Jess.” He noticed her smile as she talked. She was so pretty. Like a swan in a small lake. She stood out to most of the crowd, her semi-blonde hair slightly still their as it looked like she must have dyed it red. Her septum crooked but still there, a pretty silver colour. Her outfit was casual, a pink panthers t-shirt with green cargos matched with a pair of green sneakers.
“Cool! I’m coming from Oakton for study, college and stuff.” She nodded as a response. They kept talking, laughing and he even bought her a coffee. She thought it was such a nice gesture. But then she realised, its 4:45am, time for boarding.
“if you want, you can take my number.” He spoke kindly. She smiled. “of course!”
And there it was, time for boarding. They both took their separate paths as she entered the small but loud crowd. If only she knew, this was only the beginning.
