Hawk Conservancy Centre 

Oh my! I absolutely loved it here and will definitely be making a return visit. If you like birds/ birds of prey this is the place to visit. The hawk conservancy centre specialise in working with birds of prey, they conserve species for years to come, are involved in rehabilitation projects and offer public education through this amazing site and their flying displays. Ever had a vulture fly over you and skim your head? No? Well, you’re missing out! Get yourself down here to experience some magnificent creatures up close -Roxy C.

Since I’m married now a day out with the birds doesn’t come around that often. So when life gives you these wonderful chances, take them -TommyC  Cost: Adult £15.95, Children under 4 Free, Children aged 4-15 £11.95, Family (2 adults, 2 children) £50.50, Concessions £14.95

Opening hours: 10am-5pm summer season, 10am-4.30pm winter season.

Side note: If you ever find a bird of prey who has been injured or is in distress you can ring the Hawk Conservancy centre and they’ll go along and check the bird over to make sure it’s ok.

Yesterday

(tried to post this yesterday, but network was down)

First day back at the Hawk Conservancy today after Christmas and boy wasn't it chucking it down with rain!

At the end of the day the mud on my trousers reached to my knee and splash drops reached even higher, I can't even count the amount of times my hair got soaked and then dry and then soaked again.

My day was quite dull compared to previous in the way of working with the actual birds, but I relish the few little things that I can do, some days are better than others, but all the people are great and getting better the more confidence I get with them and the better I know them,

So yesterday consisted of: •Setting out tables for the public so they can eat picnics inside •Swapping the donkey's hay with sawdust because the shed was leaking •Doing the gate (letting people in and out of the flying grounds during shows, but stopping people coming in when birds are flying for health and safety) •Doing bird holding - giving the opportunity to the public to hold a bird by passing it between me and those wanting a go (this time it was a young barn owl called Delta) •Then helped with the Harris Hawk flying - where adults (16+) get the opportunity to have a Harris Hawk fly to their arm •Then did the gate again for the second time •Helped remove some Christmas lights and decorations left over •Put Harris Hawks to 'bed' - i.e. putting them inside and turning on the heat lamps •Prepping the feed for tomorrow and the small bits of meat needed for the flying demonstrations etc.

All in all a fairly busy day, though cold and wet. Better luck next week, hopefully it'll be a bit drier - but the jobs may be a bit different as the park is closed to the public.
