we also watched Knife+Heart which has a bunch of gay fucking on screen.

Some observations from my latest film binge

Explaining to a heterosexual that allegorical or implied gay sex IS actually explicit gay sex because historically queer depictions on screen were forced into subtext and is still to this day still more "shocking" or "taboo" to mainstream audiences than a heterosexual sex scene so filmmakers continue to use classic tropes and shorthand to depict gay sex

im convinced that there's still some kind of Hayes' Code internal to Hollywood because what do you mean EVERY SINGLE STORY that involves immortality in any way has to make the character choose death/denounce immortality/tell someone that they WANT TO DIE. Every single one. I've never seen a movie wholly endorse the concept of people choosing not to die. That is some rich people propaganda bullshit yall

1933: Hold Your Man, starring Clark Gable and Jean Harlow

A woman is sent to a reformatory when her con artist lover flees after killing a man during a botched blackmail scheme. Hold Your Man is significant as Harlow's transitional film from the pre-code days. Technically the Hays Code did not go into effect until July 1934, studios were trying to police themselves earlier than that to take some of the heat off. (MGM)
